Weird times at the gyno--am I the only one?

Hi folks!

So, I went to my annual ob/gyn check up and yet again, I completely confused the doctors with my "abnormal" cervical mucus and strange set up down there. Yes, it's partially my fault for not having a regular ob/gyn and not going too often, but I swear, every time I feel like I have to explain what's going on. Every time the doctor gets a second opinion from another doctor working there and there I am , lying in the stirrups having to explain what CF is and what's going on--that it's not some STD, it's CF. Does any one else ever have weird times at the gyno? Maybe I should get a regular doctor, huh? After all the CF stuff it sometimes feels like an afterthought, but it's important nonetheless!

I dont go to the GYN regularly & have never had one say that things are thick or different.

As a matter of fact the only time my CF came up was when discussing replacing my IUD versus hormonal contraceptives & one time my periods were messed up from weight loss, but wanted to make sure it wasnt something else.

I must be lucky I guess since many female CFers have a mucous issue!

I must say I have gyn issues in general. I go regularly and have gone to the same lady for about 6 years now. Started going when I was 18 cause I was having some issues.

For me I so much get the oh my god that's not normal thing ... though I did when I had my transplant eval I had to have an annual and pap and all done at my center and the people freaked out and made me come back after a month because they thought something was wrong with me. I even had my entire gyn medical record with me to show them it was normal for ME and they just couldn't understand.

For me I am fortunate that when I started seeing my current gyn she had already been treating another CF patient for a few years. She as actually able to put my mind to rest with some issues because she just told me she thinks its CF related with some issues I have because her other CFer doesn't just have similar issues but the same exact issues.

I would suggest maybe finding 1 doc to go to and get familiar with though cause it can be frustrating starting from scratch when you go into an appointment and having to explain everything where if you go to the same person more they will build a relationship with you and be more familiar with the situation.

Best of Luck

I've always had problems in that area, but I also have seen several different OBGYN's because I've been moving, getting second opinions, etc. I had one NP really freak me out when I was 17. I didn't know that much about the mucus factor down there, and she was convinced I had cervical cancer. Scary 3 weeks. That same woman wouldn't ever treat me normally because she was SO intimidated by my CF. She wanted to be 110% sure that she didn't screw up my CF care, I guess. I was grateful that she cared, but annoyed by the paranoia.

I just saw a new woman who is also a midwife, and she knew a decent amount about CF because of the mandatory genetic testing at birth now. It was pretty cool.
