What are Ramifications for stopping Azithromycin

First, I know that the generic Azithromycin doesn't cost that much and I only take it M,W, F. But I'm willing to cut costs anywhere I can right now until my husband can get some work lined up. I'm stretching out some of my other scripts such as Combivent, Nexium, & Allegra. (Advair I can't miss!!)

Also, it's been a year since I did IV's. I have been feeling very junky in my lungs and shorter of breath, coughing more, more easily fatigued- even on the O2. But we definitely can't afford for me to go into the hospital or do home IV's right now. (We still haven't gotten last years completely paid off.)

Now that I've said all of this, can anyone tell me if there would be any ramifications for stopping my Azithromycin for maybe a month? Would it work as well once I start it up again?

Not sure about stopping the medication, but I would have to say to get setup on IV's if you are feeling bad. You should be able to talk to someone at the hospital and apply for financial aid if money is tight and they may cover some or all of the visit especially if you have any type of medical coverage. I waited when I was feeling bad because it was "just a couple weeks" until my next appointment and things turned really bad really quick. Something that I have heard over and over is "Money is replaceable, you are not."

I think it depends on if YOU will feel a difference. I dont notice a difference when I am not on it so for me it would be easy to stop with no ramifications.

Scary stuff since its one of those things that you might not know until you try. Everyone is different Deb!

Be so very careful PLEASE. Not that you wouldnt, but you know what I mean!

With the price of generics these days, it's only, what? $4.00 a month? Is the $4 for one month worth the risk?

I would ask the CF doc how it might effect your health. How long have you been on it and do they think it has made any difference? There are some that are not on it. But only your doc. knows whether it might or might not make a difference.

If you are feeling junky, you really ought to get checked out. I agree with checking with the hospital about financial aid. Each infection leaves scarring which can not be reversed. The #1 goal is to keep those lungs as healthy as possible. I know you know that.

I hope you feel better and maybe a course of oral antibiotics is all you need.
