What do you eat before a workout?

Hello,

I am curioius what and when everyone eats before they do a hard cardio workout? I can't do something high sugar (CFRD) but can't really just do protein cause blood sugar may drop with that. I also have problems with GERD when I eat before I workout...

So, I'm looking for ideas of things that don't cause spikes/plummets in blood sugar and also stuff that won't cause terrible reflux. I'm wondering what ya'll eat to give you energy that doesn't effect things like CFRD and GERD?

I'm also curious WHEN you eat it? Sometimes, I can eat 1 hour before a workout, but still get burpy when I run. If I wait too much further apart than that, I risk my blood sugar dropping. Any tricks?

I have yogurt which is a good combo of sugar and protein. I drink a small bottle of Powerade too. It's not much for calories, but the vitamin content is good.

Something in the back of my mind tells me that you should be eating pasta, which is carbohydrate, Is it??
Way back in school for me, were talking 25 years ago, my rugby coach, who also was a distance runner, kept telling us about pasta pasta pasta, and deffinately not oranges.

Hi Sonia, out of interest...what do you eat that doesn't work for you (i.e. what did you have bad experiences with)?
Any sugar the day of my workout also makes me suffer (exercise in evenings). I also haven't found any cereal yet that doesn't spike blood sugar so I also avoid this on my exercise days. I do best on 'real food', e.g. bit of stir fried brown rice+veggies+meat or even just an apple. Boring but works for me. Always have something after the workout too.
