What does this mean?

Hey, everyone.

So, I've been on levaquin and prednisone for about a week together. I felt amazing! Hardly any cough, big deep breaths, etc.

Then, a couple days ago, I was to stop my pred. So, I did that and am now just on levaquin.

Though I'm not feeling AS sick as I was a week and a half ago when I was put on both, I am coughing stuff up again and pretty much have my "normal" non-exacerbation thing going on. This is even on levaquin.

So, I am wondering, what does this mean? Was it likely an inflammation/ashtma thing that was taken care of when on the predn. and now that i'm not on it, I'm back to usual? Does this usually happen? Does pred. usually give you relief if its a full-fledged exacerbation/infection?

Is this a good or bad sign, in your opinion? I mean if pred. made me feel wonderful and not at all sick and now, when off it, I'm feeling my normal CF cough and gunk, etc., even on abx, is that a normal thing?

Thanks for any info. you may have or any experiences. I just wonder what effect pred. had on me and why even though I'm on abx, I'm not feeling as good as when on pred.

Thanks.

Hi, I was just discussing this with my husband. When the docs would put our youngest on Prednisone it was usually a five day burst. Usually it was because he really thought she was having a problem that was mostly asthmatic. He would tell us that if things cleared up and she felt better and her symptoms didn't return after finishing the course then it was asthmatic. If her symptoms returned then it was most likely her infection and to call him.

Pred. is such a tricky one cause everyone prescribes it differently. My youngest was only on it once in a while, maybe once a year.

I hope you feel better soon.

thanks, Liza!

woulnd't it be the other way around? for example, if you got relief when ON pred., its asthmatic, but if you didn't, it would be the infection? since prednisone is Rx'd for asthma to reduce acute swelling and inflammation, wouldn't it make sense that once you STOP the drug, you would inflame and have the same issues? i would have thought if infection was present, since pred. doesn't treat infections, you wouldn't get relief when on it (unless its something else going on).

sorry... i'm so confused. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> hope Rachel is feeling better!
