When I was about 25 yrs old I would blow 65% and at one time I had blown somewhere in the 50s, yikes I know, I was little younger when I blew that one though. Two years ago when the doc talked to me about my numbers being in the 60s it was a wake up call for me and I started searching for something that would help bring my numbers up a tad bit and thats when I came across Hypertonic Saline.

I know hypertonic saline doesnt work the same for everyone but seeing I had very little scar tissue I knew I should of been blowing more than what I was and after researching HS I asked the doc about taking it and he let me and ever since then my numbers kept raising, they rose everytime I saw the doc that year and when my one year mark was up on being on HS I hit 90% on my pfts. That was the only time I hit 90 now I stay around 84% and Im still working on geting my numbers to 95% cause I feel I can do it, I just havent yet.

Well said Faust. I'm 26, female, with an FEV1 of 50%. I culture highly reactive PA and staph, only been on one round of IV antibiotics. I vest, I use albuterol, HTS, and tobi. I take a mountain of vitamins and suppliments everyday. Yet here I sit with a 50% FEV1.

I think a lot of it is because my joint pain has reached the point that excersise is very difficult for me. I'm a firm believer that excersise is the best form of airway clearance out there, but most days even the thought of taking a walk for half an hour make me cringe.

The way it was explained to me is that 100% is the average based on height, weight and age, and that 80% of the non-cf population will fall with the range of 90-110%. It's a bell curve.
