Cepacia is a very dangerous bacteria/bug that CFers get like pseudomonas. Its found in medical environements & dirt. Unlike pseudmonas its harder to treat & enters your blood not just the lungs so when a CFer gets it, they really need to be careful. Its very transmittable & you really dont want it!

Hope that helps, Ben!
Suffice it to say, it's one of the bacteria you do not want...in addition to ALL the others!

B.Cepacia is a bacterial antibiotic resistant infection. Melissa is partially right........ it is harder to treat but does not enter the bloodstream except in extreme cases which would then be considered sepsis( in that case you would most likely die) Some people who contract cepacia have very little decline if any,,,, some decline slowly over the years,,,, and some decline very quickly and live less than 2 years after aquisition ( which is called cepacia syndrome) . But like Melissa said you dont want it ,none the less. It can be quite challenging, believe me........................

Ben, I am glad you asked this. I wasn't very familiar with this either and have been meaning to ask. Thanks to all who have supplied information on it.

Kiwi's comments under another cepacia topic really made me think about shared food and the great strides walk. Last year we had pizza, donuts, bread, etc. and while someone set out the antibacterial gel, almost everyone was digging around in the food. This year we still have donuts, but think the main course is going to be individually wrapped sandwiches.
