We live in a high humidity area (in the summertime). My mechanic (who is also my BIL-has all the certifications, master mechanic, etc. etc.) told me what was going on with my air system having a funky, sour, mildewy smell (ugh!) and that I was running it on recirculate too much, and to run it on fresh to fix the problem. Sure enough, it went away when I ran it on fresh for a while. And of course, the vast majority of my driving is NOT city or even congested suburb driving. We are still considered a "rural route" by the post office, lol, even though we are in a neighborhood in the city limits. We are just not on the crowded side of town .
And no, by the time you smell it it's too late, lol. I go by sight- I see a "problem" coming up, I click the button .
