What tests do you have at your annual clinic appointment?

Lisa, do you think an endoscope might be conclusive in figuring out why I'm chocking? It feels like the flap goes the wrong way and lets food into my lungs or that there's a tissue growth that gets in the way of food passing by. It seems to happen more when I have vinagery or lemony stuff.</end quote>

Lauren, I really don't know the answer to that--sorry! For my husband, they do them to see if there is any bleeding.

I get blood work once a year every year.
I get chest X-rays once a year every year.
I have had a bone density scan, but it's not an annual thing. I complained about knee and hip pain, he sent me for a scan, it was normal.
I get a culture every 3 months.
I get PFTs every 3 months.
They do my o2 sats every 3 months.
I have never had an endoscopy. I take Nexium and it takes care of the acid reflux problem.
I don't seem to have problems with allergies.
I've never had my sats checked while exercising. My PFTs are still fairly high though, so that may be why.
And I already have an ENT that I see if need be. I just had a sinus scan done because my nose has looked iffy. The scan wasn't so good, so I've been more careful about taking my nose spray. I will see my doc again in July and we'll see what he says about my nose then.

Even before pregnancy, my husband and I noticed I chock while eating more often than I used to. It probably happens once a month. I consciously take smaller bites of food to hopefully avoid chocking. Does this happen to anyone else? I should probably start a seperate thread about this but it's what led me to thinking it might be a good idea to get an endoscopy. Lisa, do you think an endoscope might be conclusive in figuring out why I'm chocking? I think it's severe reflux. I bet you're already on a PPI, but that acid could still be coming and making you ralph.

Definately go to an endo....

Here are the CFF's guidelines of what CF Clinics are supposed to do annually:

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://understandingcysticfibrosis.blogspot.com/2007/06/patient-registry-report-part-2.html
">http://understandingcysticfibr...ort-part-2.html
</a>

Here's an article about CT scans and how they differ from x-rays (no, an x-ray does not suffice)
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://understandingcysticfibrosis.blogspot.com/2007/04/how-ct-scan-works.html
">http://understandingcysticfibr...scan-works.html
</a>

The PFTs in the box are done annually (which is different from spirometry which is typically done at each clinic visit I have)

I also get a dexascan yearly. <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://understandingcysticfibrosis.blogspot.com/2007/04/dexa-scans.html
">http://understandingcysticfibr...07/04/dexa-scans.html
</a>
More articles on my blog to come about what all these tests mean. I have a feeling that many, like LouLou will benefit from the info.
