Hiya Everyone,

I have just finished a 2 week course of iv's today, and my new years resolution is to stay out of hospital as much as i can this year, but i need to maintain my weight a bit more, but the thing is i never know what to eat, i'm not a fussy eater but when it comes meal times i never know what to have and usually dont have anything.

Which has lead me to have my meals made for me at my aunts house so she and my cf team know i'am eating, just looking for different things too try any replies would be great thankyou.

Hope Everyone is well,

James H.

Hi there,

I have a hard time sometimes eating a lot at meal times - I usually eat smaller meals and snacks throughout the day and I find I feel better that way. If I stuff myself at meal times I end up feeling nauseated for a while afterwards.

Also I try to eat things that have protein. I looked into the foods I like and found which ones had more protein than the others. I use those as my snacks. Peanut butter and crackers - or peanut butter with anything really (celery, apples, peanut butter sandwiches and so on) also I eat just straight peanuts. Strawberry Boost with added Protein helps also on days that I just don't feel like eating - I will drink a Boost in place of my lunch or something and that usually gives me the calories and stuff I need without my having to eat a ton of food.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Good luck with the weight gain.

I don't know your living situation, but if you're just feeding yourself and wanna make it easy I'd go for the canned-sauce-just-add-meat type things...give it flavour and it's easy...this is my bachelor days coming out ;D

Things like:

Spaghetti bolognese: you can get the sauce, add spaghetti, mince and heat...good feed and easy.

Things like having to do the dishes put me off cooking so I got a BBQ and cooked all the meat I ate on the BBQ outside, saved dishes, tasted better and you don't smoke out the house ;D

Pasta's...anything, just boil and add sauce...

Meat and veges...easy peasy...marinades are easy to add to meat as well, you can get them in the powdered form and you just add water and sit the meat in it over night...then BBQ it.

Pre-plan your meals (to a degree) on sunday for the week...eg: monday = lambs chops and spud, peas carrots...etc etc for the week, then you don't have to think about it everday, just one day a week...but trust me, BBQ'ing the meat takes alot of hassle out of it.

shop for it....get bulk veges, but don't over do it (it'll rot), cause then you only have to buy meat every week and veges every second week...or vice versa...you can freeze meat and it'll last for a few weeks.

For you, I'd sugest high protein etc..there's a nutrition section here and you can plan your food that way....we've all GOT to eat, so plan it and make it simple...do it on the same day every week and do it the same way..it'll become a habit after a while.

Avoid chicken and pork...pain up the bum to cook and not worth the drama.

Hope that helps.

You are welcome to check out the recipes on our site. The site is still under construction and I am tidying it up a bit and fixing the printing issue, so excuse the dust. Maybe it will spark some ideas.

Some quickies I use for my son which really go a long way are chicken, egg, and tuna salads. I make these all in the beginning of the week (say on Sunday) and they last almost 4 days. We use them for lunches and snacks with a power smoothie.

Chicken Salad: Boil 2 chicken breasts, cut up into cubes, add about 1/2 to cup of canola mayo, grapes, walnuts (crushed or chopped), a bit of red onion, and if you like tarrogon. If you need more calories add a bit of MCT oil or walnut oil on your portion.

Egg Salad: Hard boil 4-6 eggs (get Omega 3 eggs if you can), cut up, add canola mayo, pickle and bit of onion if you wish, and paprika.

Tuna Salad: Tuna (albacore), canola mayo, pickles, onion, dill (fresh or dried).

Also, on the same day you could make a quick marinade (olive oil, lemon, salt, pepper, a bit of mustard, and lemon or balsamic vinegar), place a few tablespoons of marinare in a individual ziplock, marinade overnight in fidge and throw into freezer for quick additions to pasta. You can take this a step further and grill (gotta get a George Foreman if you are in a winter climate) or saute all the breasts, cut up into strips and freeze most, saving a little for the next day. Eat with fruit, use with pita and hummus and a smoothie for a lite meal or snack, throw on salad, and on top of pasta.

PAPADINI PASTA: Gotta try this line of pastas. This stuff has a much protein as a steak. It is made from lentil flour and packed with protein. Good tasting pasta, great texture. I have a few recipes on the site using it (Wedding Soup and High Protein Pasta Dish).

Warmly,

Since my boyfriend and I started living together, meals have been somewhat annoying. I usually have a breakfast bar in the morning with a glass of milk, make something quick for the afternoon, and eat dinner with my parents. I go to bed late, so about 10 or 11 I have a snack. Its always cottage cheese. Love the stuff. Nice and fatty.

For quick meals, I usually stick with mac n' cheese with tuna mixed in, the instant Hamburger Helper microwave stuff, or hot dogs. Just throw 'em in the broiler and boom, instant meal. Pizza is always good, too. The only meal I actually take the time to cook is Japanese stir fry. Even that's pretty quick and easy. I'll give you the recipe, if you're interested. Hope that helps some!

While shopping for foods for my daughter recently I found a great variety of high fat, pretty decent protein foods in the freezer section. There are frozen meatballs which we just pop into the toaster oven for her, breatfast entrees (sausage scramblers), mexican-ish meals and snacks...we always avoided these things for ourselves (well, mostly) so it was fun to explore and see what's there. I'd suggest planning to spend an hour roaming your grocery store. Open the freezers you never open, go down new aisles and check labels. SOme of the convience foods can make great snacks and additions to "sensible" meals. Good Luck!
