what was your first job as a kid?

Josh's friends have been starting to get jobs, mostly baggers at the supermarket or bus boys. Josh has been pretty critical about those jobs because he's concerned about working with the general public (germs etc).

I told him he can do whatever he wants and he said "Oh yeah mom, where am I gonna work- CF KIDS R US? Just put me in a bubble and I can talk by walkie talkie so I don't get sick?"

It was kinda funny, but I know he wasn't really making a joke.

Any ideas from you guys?

Ry worked at a drugstore. Yes, it was interacting with the general public, but what kind of job does he want when he grows up? Most good jobs involve some public interaction. This will be a good way to test the waters. I'm sure Ry came into contact with some germs, but he enjoyed his job, and it was good experience for the 'real world'. He also nannied during college summers, how does Josh feel about babysitting?

I was going to say, like Allie, what are his interests? babysitters can actually get paid quite well, if he likes children.

All of my earlier jobs were customer service/cashier jobs. I also was a phone rep for awhile which I enjoyed. What about that for Josh? I know that most companies like that are always hiring students. You sit in a cubicle and either call people for surveys, etc, or people call you. Plus they provide on the job training. That way you don't have to deal with people face to face and have to worry about nasty germs. Its an idea anyway.

I was a lifeguard, then a swim coach for 5 years and gave private swim lessons...lots of fun! It was interacting with the public, but I enjoyed it and it didn't pose a problem for me. Good luck! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

i worked at a supermarket when i was a teen. i never caught germs off the public. however, i did overdo it by working too much. if he works 'behind the scenes' like restocking shelves, working in the fruit and veg dept etc i dont see how he would catch anything. most jobs are pretty safe. even if you come into contact with someone who is sick its easy to avoid their germs.
