My first job was at the age of 12. I was a newspaper delivery girl. At 15 I became a mother's helper to a woman on my route who worked and had 2 children so I quit the delivery business. I helped take care of a 6 month old and 4 year old after school and on weekends for the next 3 1/2 years. I got to go on some pretty cool vacations including Disney World before heading off to college.

My first job, at about age 16, was working part-time at a furniture store, stripping the paint. It wasn't so much the thinner, or paint fumes that were beginning to burn my lungs that caused me to quit, it was more of the fact the store owner, and his brother were religious fanatics and were trying to recruit me to their congregation! I was feeling quite uncomfortable getting into a religious debate back then!
Supposedly, my mom had found the job for me, but didn't realize the fumes should have been taken into consideration.
My second job, during my junior year in high school was working at a Showbiz Pizza Place, in which I was a popular person when I was able to give out free tokens!!! (but the popularity ran out as fast as the tokens!) It was winter time, so I had plenty of contact with germs, but never really got hit by anything. I had it worse when I was working as a field tech for copy repair. I guess going in-and-out of (overly) heated buildings in the winter was rough.
I occasionally helped my little brother with his paper route, but it was rough getting up early Saturday mornings to deliver.
Whatever he finds for a job, the most important is that he enjoys it!!!

Oops!

Just thought I'd add some ideas of my own for jobs, since I can't erase this space, but can edit it!

Babysitting sounds like a good idea, but then that is not a 'germ-free' environment. Unless the kids being baby-sat don't have the 'sniffles'.

I found that working at a fast food joint was exhausting, but I always wanted to work at a bicycle repair shop, or something that really fancied my interests, and having that extra skill might be helpfull in the future.

(Forgot to add) If Josh is ok with working as a bus boy, that's not too bad, depending on whether he gets a percent of the waiter/waitresses tips for doing an excellent job of bringing customers to their area. I worked at a fruit shop (more like a fruit supermarket), which involved bagging, and stocking up the displays. It wasn't a bad job, It just didn't pay me enough to get through college (at minimum wage).
I don't suspect as many 'bugs' are around at the restaurants, but to minimize possible contact, it would be best if he washed his hands after clearing the tables.
Another high recommendation, is if Josh could gargle after work...supposedly that would help a lot.
