i worked at a supermarket when i was a teen. i never caught germs off the public. however, i did overdo it by working too much. if he works 'behind the scenes' like restocking shelves, working in the fruit and veg dept etc i dont see how he would catch anything. most jobs are pretty safe. even if you come into contact with someone who is sick its easy to avoid their germs.

I worked at a frozen yogurt shop. I got all the free frozen yogurt I could eat. YUM. That was back in my ultra- skinny days. I was on my feet for 5-6 hours at a time, but with the music blasting and my great co-workers, I learned a lot and had a great time.

I did babysitting-germs-and at 16 I started a work program and began training for my nursing assistant degree. I had a job at 16 almost 17 as an NA at a doctors office-tons of germs. lol. My doc wasn't thrilled. I loved that job. But as I got older I did start getting sick more. I quit-and pursued my first love-my artwork. Best job I ever had.
I do think in all jobs you will have to be in the real/germ world. Don't worry about it too much, thats how I personally feel. Do what you love-that should be your first concern. Thats my opinion.

I worked at a convenience store, then in an inbound call centre. The call centre was ok because you didn't have to deal with the public face-to-face, but you have to learn to be nifty with the mute button to hide coughing and sniffling!

Now I have an 8-5 office job and I am more likely to get sick than in customer service. The air conditioning system spreads germs like crazy, and co-workers always come in sick. Not to mention the bus trip every morning and evening, also with sick people. I've found that if I slack on my "garlic, horseradish and C" tablets or forget to wash my hands often... that's when I get sick. Otherwise, I get colds less often than most.

My first job (& most demanding) was as a waitress...probably wasn't the ideal job, handling other people's dirty. germy dishes when I cleared the tables. So that's probably out of the picture.
What about pizza delivery as a first job or are there age limits to deliver pizza?

I started babysiting when I was...well I started going on my sisters job's when I was about 10 and took over at 12. I worked retail at 15 1/2 for about 6 months, then scooped ice cream for a few weeks (hated that) then I was a Hostess in a restaurant, then I was a nanny and then I worked at a video store for a few yrs. I really liked the video store. I didn't really worry about germs too much. I mean I wash my hands but that's about all you can really do. The only job I have ever scratched off my list is waiting tables because I thought coughing and then delivering their food might impact my tips

Some jobs will work some won't you just got to try them on for a bit and see. I thought the pizza delivery was a good idea. Also a lot of retail stores hire people to help behind the scenes...uhmm like for will call or gift wrap or receiving merchandise, sorting junk.....where would he like a discount? When your not getting paid big a discount can be a nice perk.

With all the meds and treatments I dont know if this would work because of the early hours but how about a newspaper route?
He wouldnt really have to deal with anyone face to face.

i worked in a dept store and never had any problems. i dealt with the public all the time and didnt get more germs than normal. like lots of people have said- whats he interested in doing when he's older? because that could be a good start, and quite possibly he will be working with the general public. i work in the juvenile justice system now...some of the people we deal with are pretty damn gross scum of the earth kind of people (and thats putting it nicely!) and i've still had no problems with germs etc.
