what was your first job as a kid?

Oops!

Just thought I'd add some ideas of my own for jobs, since I can't erase this space, but can edit it!

Babysitting sounds like a good idea, but then that is not a 'germ-free' environment. Unless the kids being baby-sat don't have the 'sniffles'.

I found that working at a fast food joint was exhausting, but I always wanted to work at a bicycle repair shop, or something that really fancied my interests, and having that extra skill might be helpfull in the future.

(Forgot to add) If Josh is ok with working as a bus boy, that's not too bad, depending on whether he gets a percent of the waiter/waitresses tips for doing an excellent job of bringing customers to their area. I worked at a fruit shop (more like a fruit supermarket), which involved bagging, and stocking up the displays. It wasn't a bad job, It just didn't pay me enough to get through college (at minimum wage).
I don't suspect as many 'bugs' are around at the restaurants, but to minimize possible contact, it would be best if he washed his hands after clearing the tables.
Another high recommendation, is if Josh could gargle after work...supposedly that would help a lot.

I babysat when I was younger - maybe 14-18 age range.

I also worked and helped my mom to send out bills for the docs office she worked at - she would bring all the stuff home for me to do after school and after my schoolwork lol. I stuffed envelopes for patients and insurance companies, so the docs office could get paid.

My FIRST REAL job - outside of babysitting and outside of my mom - was at a restaurant. I was a hostess/cashier at a sports bar. Not the best decision at the time because the restaurants still had a smoking section, but they changed the smoking/nonsmoking to ALL nonsmoking (because of a new law in FL) while I was working there, so that was nice.

While I was working at the restaurant I also started nannying. I would nanny and watch the kids from about 2am - 2pm and then when the parents got home they let me do whatever I wanted (they worked in radio - so they had odd hours). I would work part time at the rest. when I was nannying.
I worked at the rest about a year off and on - I moved away for 3 months. I nannied for about 6 months.

Earlier this year I also worked as a cashier at the local grocery store. I will say THAT was so much harder than I thought it would be. I was on my feet ALL day sometimes for 8-9 hours (except for my break) and to add insult to injury had to climb 2 flights of stairs about 3-4 times a day. The people didn't appreciate me coughing either. I ended up quitting after about 1.5 months because I got horribly sick and I never went back because it was so exhausting.

Good Luck with the job hunt,
Lindsey

I will say I didn't have a "real" job until after I graduated high school cause my parents didn't want me working, but those are the jobs that I have had.

One of my first jobs was selling shoes at an athletic shoe store. I worked out great for me and I kept that job over 9 years. It actually lead to my "real" job that I kept for over 15 years before I had to go out on disability. (Gosh I sound so old writing that - yikes)

It was a great job and you are sort of insulated from the really sick public. Most people who are sick, do go out looking for shoes.

Good Luck,

I waited tables as my first job.

More recently I've worked in a doctor's office filing charts. Small office...only 2 doctors(internists) and most of their patients aren't contagious...more like heart issues, diabetes, high blood pressure etc.

I was in the back where they kept the files, really never saw anyone except the office staff and the office staff is a whopping 4 people plus the 2 doctors! Good pay too

Couldn't agree more.

I've worked on and off for my dad at an insurance agency doign filing...so boring. Over the summer I had my first "real" job at a movie theatre. At first I was cleaning theatres which didn't seem to affect my CF at all and then I moved up to the concession stand and register and even though I was dealing with tons of people and money (I didn't realise money was so dirty by the way...eww) I was fine. I ended up getting sick near the end of my time working there but I think that was due more to me overworking myself and not from being around other people. It was such a fun job, plus the perks were awesome, free movies, popcorn and drinks!

I worked in a toy store so I was around sick kids all day. You would be amazed how many parents bring their kids to the toy store when they are sick. It didn't seem to affect me all that much. The way I saw it was that I was in school around tons of people anyway, this wasn't going to make much differecnce.
