What would you do re: starting IVs

I'm mostly aggressive with such things, but since showing intermediate to almost all meds and having severe adverse reactions and allergic reactions to many from overuse, my docs are a little more reserved when using them. They now want to make SURE its necessary to use them cause often, for me, the side effects/allergies are severe enough to cause pause to compare risk to gain. They want to reserve them for when I absolutely need them and are having me do other things in the interim to see if I can get my pfts up on my own (i.e. increased exercise, looking into GERD, etc.)

So, though I'd usually say if it moved into your chest go on IV abx, I feel your frustration with dealing with intermittant meds as well. Have they done synergy testing to make sure any meds they'd put you on will work in combo?

All my best...

Well I decided not to pick up the Cipro prescription. I'm heading straight to IVs on Monday unless I have a turn around this weekend which I'm hoping, praying and working hard for. Lots of water, HTS, albuterol every 4 hrs, Vest as often as I do albut., sleep, etc.

I don't want to have to wait 6 weeks to get on the trial but I am not going to let myself totally tank lung function wise just so I can get the pills that much faster. Although I am willing to play Russian Roulette this weekend with hopes that I get better and don't need IVs.

On the bright side if I do need IVs, my doc can just call in the prescription and the meds will be delivered and my port accessed - as easy as that! No figuring out childcare plans for my son and scheduling a pic at some narly hospital. Maybe I should get an at home FEV1 meter though. So often I'm starting IVs not knowing how low I was. We just check when I think I'm all better to see if I have gotten back to baseline. It's worked so far and reduces my exposure.

I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for your replies.
