I got a port recently and don't find it much of a hassle to do IVs. I've done them Dec.08, Mar 09, June and July of 09. Prior to these courses I'd only ever done IVs 2 times in the last 15 years. You see I started to culture MRSA and my PA became more resistant necessitating IVs around a year and half ago.
I am now doing Colistan and Doxycycline on/off every 14 days prophylactically to keep my lung bugs under control.
I started with a cold on Sunday. It's been a weird one. Not much nasal congestion just a little along with some fatique again nothing crazy. Thought maybe I'd get well without it every going to my lungs which is something I was able to do 2 years ago. Then yesterday I started with the post nasal drip cough. And by 2pm it had turned into a cough with that "moving into the lungs" feeling of burning in the upper bronchial tubes. I'm a little sluggish but feeling pretty good other than lung congestion. No fever or lack of appetite which sometimes I experience...maybe those symptoms just haven't arrived yet.
I'm on the Colistan (PA) and Doxy (MRSA). I could add Cipro for more PA coverage. Or go straight to IVs and have PA and MRSA coverage. Lately I'm resistant to Cipro but I am showing intermediate for a couple of my PAs...I now have 4!
What would you do if you were in my shoes? Try Cipro or just go straight to IVs? Oh and to complicate matters, this will delay my participation in a clinical trial. I'll have to wait 6 wks if I take anything...oral or IVs before they can start me. Otherwise, I would have started the trial in 2 wks. Oh gosh maybe I should just ride it out a few more days. Maybe I can get by with nothing other than more aggressive lung pt.
