When did you start to need oxygen?

Hi all,

I was just generally wondering when (FEV1-wise) you started to use oxygen. Currently, my FEV1 is in the high 50%'s, and at rest, my ox sat is usually 96%. Just wondering what other people's experiences have been...

I just started using 2L of oxygen at night and my FEV1 is 23% and during the day my resting pusleox is between 93-96%, I also have to use 6L of oxygen when I exercise.

What you usually hear is that start you on oxygen when your sats dip to 92% or below. As that is when there is a chance your organs don't get enough o2.

You can be at 96% at rest but might dip to 90% below when asleep or with exercise. That is when you might need o2 at night or with exercise. And not during the day when just sitting at your sofa.

I started with o2 at night. It was long ago and I was little. Don't know what my sats were at that point.

I started on o2 abt 4yrs ago my Fev's are in the high 40 range and my ox sat is abt 95-96 the doctor suggessted it, I said ok fine and have been using it for 4yrs now, 2ltrs. but last year I had to move the concentrater out of the bedroom I could not stand the noise so we put it in the LR and my husband made a hole in the fl. molding and we ran the tubing thru from the other room, nice and quiet but I had to move it up to 3ltrs. as with the extra 25ft tubing I felt like I was not getting enough force. You will feel good with it for sure. Pat/55-CF

Everyone is talking about sats at 95%-96% and taking o2 with those numbers. Does this mean you are actually on o2 also during the day with those numbers? And not only with doing things or sleeping when you might desat?

It just feels very strange as 96% is a fairly normal o2 sat... And I have read many times that 95 and more are considered fine.
