When did your doc place G-tube?

Our next appt isn't until October and I assume I'll ask this question at that time as well, but when did your docs recommend G-tube placement? At what weight percentile did they stress the need for one? Is it rare to be PI and not have a g-tube placed at some point? How often are they replaced?

Hi There

Lachy aged 13 & DD508 doesn't have a G-tube. He's PI & over the 50th percentile, so PI does not = G-tube. Good luck!

My daughter's 2 and a half and has been struggling with her weight since about 8 months old. She has been under 10th percentile since then. She has been in the 2-5% BMI for about a year or so, and we've been discussing the tube for about 9 months. We meet the surgeon on Monday.

So its not necessarily a quick process, unless the child is not gaining at all. I don't think that all PI = g-tube at all, in fact I think the doctor said that less than 30% of all CFers wind up with g-tubes.

When did you doc place G-tube?

Our doctor recommended one after our daughter dropped to negative tenth percentile. She was also in the hospital a lot with respiratory issues so she needed the extra weight on her. She was only 14 months old when he started asking me to let him do the surgery. I relented at 20 months because nothing I did at home seemed to help her gain weight. It was the right decision for us. We love what the G-tube has done for her. She is now 7 years old, and in the fiftieth percentile and climbing.
