When do you try to get rid of bugs?

Hey there,
I was just thinking. I have been living with staph and mrsa cultures for like the last year now, and i can tell that i am getting a bit worse, but not that bad. I can still do all the things I've been doing for the past 5 years now, just with slight difference. I don't do anything to treat these bugs, as they rarely cause an infection that requires antibiotics...

Is this wrong? Should i be treating these bugs so that nothing comes up in my sputum? I've always cultured something...and i just kinda figured it was ok....but after reading and thinking, I'm wondering, should i actively try and get rid of them? Or just treat them when they cause infection. I dunno, my doctors seem fine with letting it go, but I'm not sure that's the best solution. Will they ever go away? What do you guys do?

I am especially interested in the 30-40 year olds. Cause if I feel kinda crappy now, how will I ever get to 30-40 if i keep living with these bugs? I dunno, I'm cofused...

Thanks guys

I don't know if it's actually been proven, but it seems like a more agressive approach equals a longer life span. Someone posted this article a while ago, and it kind of relates. Skip the first part until it starts talking about Dr. LeRoy Matthews and his approach. =-) <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="<a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content?041206fa_fact">http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content?041206fa_fact</a>">http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content?041206fa_fact">http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content?041206fa_fact</a></a>

Sorry, i forgot how big the article was. =-) The part I'm talking about is about a quarter of the way down and starts with a big "O"

Erm, the link doesn't seem to be working (I'm glad i checked!) It should work by pasting this into your browser, though:

Being in the "30s", I think you should treat it agressively. I just lost 10% of my lung function that doesn't seem to want to come back, and I wasn't really feeling "crappy"...in fact, I am currently on IV antibiotics to try to clear the staph I culture 80% of the time. I am on antibiotics more than not, but do not produce nearly the amount of mucus when I'm on the antibiotics (and it's not green either)...sorry, I know that's kind of gross, but I don't know how else to describe it :)
