When needing a picc?

I guess I am confused about why it seems like they don't do picc lines on the weekends. I assumed the hospital was pretty much open 24 hours a day.

The last time Austin was in and having problems with his picc and I wanted it checked out. Well one of the crappy nurses that we had that day said "Oh its fine it's probably gonna be pulled tomorrow anyways." (There was ahole in the picc line.) She made the comment well we would have to call someone in cuz they aren't here on the weekend. I was like so call them in thats what they get paid for.

It turned out that there was someone there who had already been called in for another patient.

But again why does it sem like they aren't there on the weekends? Or is it just Austins hospital?

I cna't answer you question but no, it is not just that hospital. I have had to have stuff done in interventional radiology before and they weren't there on the weekends.

I ran into this as well. They have a "light" picc team available on the weekend, but not a full one. When I said I wanted my daughter to have sedation for it, because we had tried the day before and it was a miserable mess, they said "nope, not gonna happen on a Saturday." I was sooo bothered by this as well.

It's that way at my hospital too. Heck, I ended up in a different hospital last time, and their whole bloomin' picc team was gone to a conference for the week! How the $%#$&^@ do you leave an entire hospital without a picc person for a week? Bonus- I was in ICU for 3-4 days, too, no picc, no picc for the whole 10 days, new IV almost every day....Don't get me wrong, I was glad to be alive, but that did not make my stay any easier...
