Where did they all go?

I was checking out some blogs and it surprised me how many were opened, but not used. What happened to these people?

I also noticed that some of the people we were used to seeing haven't been around recently. Just the ones I could remember
Beth, Cowantriplets, cutiepatootie (TX?), falloutboygirl16, izemmom (new home?), Kaismom, MC Pappy, Miss Audrey, mtmonroe, pete, skh, Something Very Clever.

Hope everyone's ok

Well, here's some food for thought about that. Awhile back there were some posts that may have discouraged some people from continuing to actively participate. One of the series had to do with whether older CFers were getting too many kudos for surviving. I noticed that several of the older CFers cut back on their posts or quit altogether. How sad. We really need their advice, regardless of our ages.

Another series had to do with listing who is your favorite (fill in the blank). The second one really turned me off, and this is the first time I've posted since. It was like a popularity contest, reminiscent of high school. My name, and many, many others weren't on it. My feelings were hurt. Is that silly and childish? You bet. Do I think anyone intended to make me feel bad. Absolutely not. I know it was just intended for fun. I know I shouldn't care. But the unintended result is that there was a mass dropoff by some of the "regular" posters right after that. I wish I had had the courage to say something at the time, but it just brought back way too many memories of being the sick one in school who wasn't at the top of the activity and popularity charts. Please don't bother writing back that I need to get over it or that I shouldn't let it affect me. I know that. But it still does.

I don't know if either of these series of posts is the reason. Just my personal observation. I wish everyone the best, and I do check in to see what's new. I just really no longer feel like a welcome member of this forum family. Now I feel more like someone on the outside looking in. And I don't expect you guys to change anything for me. It's my problem not yours, and you can all get along just fine without me. But, I do think I had some good advice and experiences to share. Be well.

I totally understand how you feel anon. Great point and I am glad that you shared this as it is very important. I think it is also possible that there were many people who were banned so you never know who got booted off or who is sick or who feels like you do.

Hello Everyone!

Well, I know I wasn't on the list but I am who
has been away due to two vacations back to back (one to Italy and
the other to a local retreat get away) and because we were
reorganizing the study our computer was off line for a few
days. And today we brought our oldest back to college (a
junior this year) early with a van load of stuff as he has required
training for a position that he accepted. His sister will be
joining him (a sophomore) in two weeks.

A big thanks to those who made
suggestions which made my trip to Italy more enjoyable. We
had a connecting flight in Germany and the security there was a
nudge about my nebulizer. Even though I had my doctor notes
and they scanned everything they stilled pulled me aside to a
separate room and did a scan of the machine (looked like just a
piece of paper that they were running all along the machine.
But finally I got the go ahead to meet up with my family and we
were off to make our connecting flight to Rome.

My doctor and I discussed taking the Vest but
with all the walking I was going to be doing and with my flutter
and acapella choice on hand we agreed to leave it home.

The airport in Frankfurt was thick with
smoke. Yucky!! After arriving in Italy, which turned
out to be during a heat wave, I discovered that my inspiration
nebulizer, even with the appropriate European plug attachment and
transformer was working very poorly. Amy's voice kept popping
in my head saying, "You are not getting your medication to
your smaller airways with this low power. You better get
another machine otherwise you are wasting your time and money on
these treatments and your health will deteriorate." So we went
the very next day to the local pharmacy, (thank you Amy for being
my conscience) and with a little Italian, English and lots of hand
motions I ended up purchasing a new one. This one did the job
very well. And at a cost of 65 American dollars it was well worth
it.

So with that behind me and my endless supply
of disposable neb cups and refrigerator to keep my meds cool I
thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Italy, especially our time in
Vatican City. There is just so much art, history and culture
to absorb. The downside was that is seems so many people
smoke. And they smoke everywhere especially when they are
eating. And of course you have mopeds and little itsy bitsy
cars (smart cars) driving right past you as you are sitting at an
outdoor caf?. It really is quite funny to see how these
vehicles can squeeze in anywhere and everywhere.

Another downside was the lack of air
conditioning. Not the hotel but just about everywhere
else. Even taxi's that had air conditioning either used it on
the lowest setting or not at all. We had to beg for it to be
turned on or up. Many restaurants, museums, and other
building just didn't have it or they had portable units that just
didn't do much good in the intense heat and humidity Italy was
experiencing.

Overall though, I was very pleased how I was
able to tolerate that kind of weather and walk here and there all
day long. Wearing large sunglasses and sporting an umbrella
for some sun protection did help. I did, Laura bring
antibiotics just in case but boy am I glad I did not need them as
it would have been nearly impossible to avoid all sun. And
that can cause a nightmare of a reaction, one I have experienced
before and never want to again. Nighttime was not bad to be
out and about so that was at least a break from the relentless
heat.

We ate lots of gelate to keep cool and drank
water practically all day long.

Coming home I decided to pack my two
nebulizers in the suitcase that was to be checked in because I
didn't want the hassle of being stopped in Germany again as we only
had 40 minutes to make our connecting flight. After all what would
be the chance that our luggage wouldn't make the connecting
flight? Well, it seems half the people on our plane did not
have there luggage make the connecting flight and my suitcase was
one of them. Actually 2 of our 5 suitcases didn't
make the flight. So we waited an hour on a line once we
landed to fill out paperwork and by the following evening they hand
delivered our 2 suitcases to our house. Whew! I was
glad to recover them. I did have a pari trek at home to use
in the meantime. I know Amy, it's not approved for Pulmozyme
but desperate times call for desperate measures and it was only for
two treatments.

All in all our 25th anniversary
trip to Italy with our 3 children was very memorable. We took about
4,000 digital pictures between everyone's cameras. Isn't that
insane! If anyone is thinking about going all I can say it
"go." There is just so much to experience
there.

It was nice to get back to America, the land
of smoke free airports and very cold air conditioning. I will
never again complain that the air conditioning is too cold anywhere
again.

I think this post is long enough, probably too
long and if you made it to the end all I can say is thanks for
hanging in there. I thought of you all often and hoped you
were doing well. It will take me some time to catch up on
posts but I am looking forward to that. I really learn so
much for all your experiences and I appreciate how you all share so
willingly. I consider you all friends.

In closing I just want to wish everyone a Very
Happy 10th Anniversary. This is quite a
milestone. Thank you to those who work hard keeping this
website going so that we cfer's along with our family and loved
ones can come together.
Cheers!

Jem-Very nice to hear u had a great trip! I'd love to hear more about it sometime.

Jane-I agree with you posting about this, and I think its very nice of you to be thinking about all these people.

I was just thinking the other day that there have been less posts in general, and less responses to posts/questions.

I have to say, I am in 100% agreement with the anons post about some of the reasons why people may not be around as much, or posting as much. I don't think the "favorite" list from a few weeks ago was created to hurt anyone or single anyone out-it was created to be fun of course. But, I think favorite lists do end up just leaving people left out, and promoting clique-ness. I definately see that.

And when posts are ceated, depending on who originates them, it can affect it.

-wanted to clarify my meaning, sorry I got lost there for a minute-i meant to say that I think depending on who creates the post, it will affect how many responses that post gets.

Again, not trying to single anyone out. For the most part I don't think there is anyone on this site that has a mean spirit. Everyone pretty much means well. But I totally see this stuff go on even so. I guess its human nature-the high school thing.

I'm sorry that we have lost some of the older cfrs, or anyone due to some posts here. The "favorite" post was meant to be light-hearted, but I didn't reply to it for the very reason you put forth, anon. I like everyone here, and didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I even liked those who were banned. Do you think some people give up on the bolgs, because they don't get very many comments? I know someone mentioned this a while ago when I had first joined. Because of that, I try to always answer the bolgs, but it can be time consuming. If you miss a day, they pile up. Most of the time, I just don't have anything to say--(in my bolg)--I seem to have no problem putting my 2cents worth on everything else! Thanks Jane, for bringing our missing members out of cyberspace!

HI Jane and everybody!

Yep, Jane, you hit it on the head with the "new home." We have been really really busy setting and just ENJOYING the new home and neighborhood. The summer has flown. I read the forums and blogs regularly but havn't had time or inclination to post too much. I would love to blog again, but I find that I become a perfectionist about it and it takes up time I need ot be spending with the girls or around the house.

Emily is doing pretty well. We are sorting out some constipation issues and she is recovering from what seems to have been a minor virus. She had her second normal culture in a row - no psuedomonas! Yaaay! She is crawling, pullling up on furniture, and trying really hard to stand without holding on. She is just wonderful!

I hope to get to the site once or twice a week when school starts. I really miss everyone. I think of you all often and include you in my prayers.

Thanks for thinking about me!

I'm "still lurking about", though the wife and I had taken a trip two weeks ago to the island of Shikoku and came back four days later....nearly a 1,000 km trip! we stopped to swim in the ocean, and, of course, for me to get some sleep since I was driving all the time!! Too bad no Guiness World Record is available for that!

I must've missed the 'favorite' post, cause I don't know what you mean by it...must've been during my second sabbatacle! (since someone didn't think my first filled thier definition)

Anyway, perhaps due to the summer holiday, most people are either without eventful days worth writing about, or they are making events to write about when they return!

Stay Cool

to the first anonymous who posted on this thread. i was the one who started the 'favorite' thread. i am sorry if it offended you or has been a put off. it did cross my mind that it could turn into a popularity thing, but i hoped it would just be a nice friendly boost to some people. heck, i don't even think anyone put ME on there! i am sorry though...

Laura, I don't think you have anything to apologize for, it was just a fun idea. 'Hurt feelings' is they same reason they proposed, last year, to take the Prom king and queen and the 'most likely to' out o my school. How ridiculous is that? Life is that way, there are awards and hurt feelings all the time. Just my opinion Laura, but you have NOTHING to apologize for.

Just wanted to restate what I said earlier-I never asked for an apology! I think the 'favorite' list was a nice idea-and meant to be fun. Especially if you were included in it, right Allie?

And true, Laura you have nothing to apologize for! You are a sweetie. Heck-you'd win a popularity contest!

I was giving the side of someone who wasn't mentioned on any popularity list-me! There's 2 sides to everything usually-doesn't make anything right or wrong. Carry on!
