Which gene type are you?

My genotyping is DF508 and R117H. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 21 and was fairly healthy up until then...now I go on antibiotics/steriods when I get sick....but I am almost 37 and still pretty healthy. I think a lot of it has to do with the R117H...but who really knows?

I always thought this should be it's own little forum section. For all the curious people, myself included. I'm just a Mommy of a little boy w/cf. I would find it very interesting if I ever came across someone with his same mutations.

My mutations are DF508 and R 347P

I don't really go by classes of mutations, my doctor said that the mutations are only a small part of the puzzle. Your outcome also depends on life style choices and other genetics. I was diagnosed until 21, although I was sick...I just didn't fit the classic description of CF. (Meaning I wasn't a kid and I was chubby)

I am DDF508. It is the most common CF mutation. But there are so many others. I think it all depends on the person how they fair in life. Some people have the same mutations but have very different symptoms. Weird....

There is only a very loose correlation between genotype and phenotype (gene expression and actual physical expression). Things like environment, treatment compliance, age of diagnosis all play a part. And now we have epigenetics coming up, so I'm sure that will tell us more.

This post is so old, but I was doing a search for someone with the same mutations as my son. He has df508 and 1898+1G>A. Your son is the first person I have ever found. When we lived in Germany (when my son was born in 07') we were sent to a German professor at a university. He did some research prior to our appt about these 2 mutations and pertaining to 1898+1G>A, he said, "he had to do some digging but found some information about this gene from somewhere in the 90's."

How old is your son if you don't mind me asking?

Hi there

Im 47 and have the df508 gene my mother and father were carriers of the same gene. Im also diabetic which i think this gene is more prone to(could be wrong), my lung functions at the minute are only 40%, i keep quite well am only out of hospital abt 3 wks ago after having ivs for 2 weeks. Ive a portacatch. I could never conceive as the mucus in my cervix was way too thick even after two attempts at ivf. But on the whole i do keep quite well. Don't work through choice, as my health is more important than work.
