Word of Thumb

I call the doc and let them know what's going on. Usually, it ends up with me getting IVs (oral doesn't work well anymore) for the reason that a viral infection can lead to a secondary bacterial infection. Because of this secondary infection possibility, the sooner you can get on abx the faster you may be able to recover if bacteria settle in.

I thought I'd post a reply just b/c my situation is a bit different than previous posters. I have never been on abx via IV and orals still do the trick for me. I tend to wait and see if it drops into my chest. Even then I tend to wait until I feel like my "sudafed or dayquil and a shot of brandy" treatment isn't working and THEN I call for abx. I usually get to a point where I'm coughing so much I'm worn out and I just need it to go away, that's when I call. Maybe it's too late, maybe I should call sooner, but I try to stay away from abx for as long as I can. That's just my two cents.
