Working and Health Benefits

Hi,
I have been with my boyfriend for a little over a year. He is 21 and has CF. He is currently attending school part time, and has been working at a grocery store part time. Last Friday he was told that because he is working he will loose about $200 of his SSI check (understandable), but losing this money would send up a "red flag" with the government. His CF lawyer said that the government would think he could support himself and take away his health benefits, so he put in his two week notice and is preparing to quit. I would like to know if any other CFer is going through this same issue, or if the information he was given is correct, because i see many other CFers working and receiving benefits. He is able to work, and he is really upset that he is now having to choose between staying alive or having a job. Replies please.

Im not sure if it is true or not but I have genetically handicapped medi-cal insurance through California. I still work and go to school and my insurance is still free to me. My work does not offer insurance and I am unable to get insurance on my own.
