Xrays

Do you get to see your xrays ever?

I haven't seen mine (or CT scans) probably for about 10 years. I've heard about them, of course. I really want to see them though. Do you guys ask or do you automatically get them after every time?

Yes after an xray i bring it over to see my doctor. This is only post transplant. Before the transplant my doctor would show them to me. Just ask and you will receive.

I stand in the booth with the x-ray tech and look at the x-rays as they're being processed, but honestly I can't tell what's up with them.

Our doctor showed us the boys' CT scans at that dreadful meeting in May. She had them placed side by side on the computer screen so we could see the progression over a year and a half. It was horrifying.

I look at mine with my doctor every time I get new ones done. Its only until recently that I actually knew what I was looking at & I believe that is because there is more damage to actually see. Its very informative to me & helps me understand the areas that need work!

I have them done every 3 months or so but I see them about once a year. My doc puts them up and explains everything to me in detail. I just had a CAT of my lungs last month, and she explained that to me. She said from it she could tell I was doing better therapies b/c there were alot of plugs gone.

It's on a "need to know basis" and apparently we don't need to know. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> Last time it was like pulling teething to even get the radiology report mailed to us, so we could send it to our CF doctor in the City.

Usually my doc just tells me what is up with them and will she me if there are any significant changes. There are times I have specifically asked to see them and he shows me without hesitation. He will also sit and explain what I am looking at if I ask. Many times though if I do not ask I do not see them.

Interesting. I see my doc this Wed and Friday and will ask to see them then. I'm scared though, b/c what I remember of them 10 years ago, they were quite pretty! There was only a little bit of haziness, a couple of small holes but all in all - pretty nice! I now know sicne recent CT scans that they's said things aren't so pretty anymore with large visible holes in the upper left side. Over the past year they said these holes have become more "pronounced". I'll probably have nightmares over what they look like, but I need to see them so I know visually what's going on inside.

Thanks for the responses.

I've always seen my x-rays, and my doc even explains them to me. After getting an x-ray, I take them to my doc and he looks at them in the room with me. So I always know just what my lungs are looking like.

I usually see mine. I never take note of it... probably because they let me see them. lol And certainly, if they didn't just bring them in, if I asked to see them, I know at least my CF doc would have no problem showing them to me. He will always explain stuff to me, or let me see my test results (not just explain, he hands over my PFTs when I ask to see). I have no doubt I could ask to see X rays and he'd get them for me. I imagine if you ask, there's no reason you can't. It's not like you're a minor.

I'll be there at 11am. We're undoubtedly going to run into eachother one of these times now that I'm "in the area"!

I'm not looking forward to seeing what my lungs look like. I remember the picture that Allie posted of bad CF lungs (a while ago) and I don't want to look like that!
