I know I know .. I ask alot of these things.

I am just curious when you guys have a few hard days - meaning tightness in your chest really short of breath and so on - do you find you have a more productive cough in the days afterwards - when you are recovering?

As you may know by reading my other post I was having problems for a few days. Well the doc took me off some meds and I am feeling better now. Still a little short of breath with exertion, but nothing too bad like the past few days (i.e. having to rest after putting on clothes). I have noticed today though that I am coughing more and coughing more up - not just with treatments. I have written it off to my airways just opening up and stuff being able to move more freely cause I really hadn't been able to cough much the past few days without gasping and huffing and puffing and feeling faint - so I didn't force the coughing.

I guess I just didn't know if that was normal or if my assumption was correct.

Thanks as always for your input.

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. And for me, its usually plugs I've moved, and then after a hard day, they come out the next day. Or, it could just be that when I have those tighter days, I do more treatments and more albuterol and they come out b/c of that.
After a while you start to notice a pattern with this stuff.

Now will you stop asking questions??!!......

I am so kidding, I hope you know that! The thing is, your questions and threads are always interesting, so its ok. (we blondes have to stick together)

I have found that at the time of treatments whether it be nebs or iv's I dont feel the full benefit instantly. It can be a few hours later or days later & it almost seems like I am getting sicker because the cough is more productive. I think my body has relaxed enough, the meds have worked enough & I am finally reaping the rewards of whatever treatment it was. This happens in the hospital also. For example.....even tho I cough up in the initial layer of stuff during CPT the deeper stuff comes up later on. Usually just before its time for the next treatment. My body is definitely one that reacts with airways issues &/or muscular responses not allowing things to move properly or quickly.

Thanks for the replies.

I was just curious as to what you all thought. It has been strange the past 24-48 hours. I was so tigh throughout my chest and feeling inflammed (I have honestly NEVER felt that inflammed and blocked off in all my life). I was coughing more yesterday and getting more stuff up - same in color no change there just getting more up is all. My mom was getting concerned and I just told her I thought it was because my airways were opening back up and stuff was finally able to move out.

It is so strange because I can feel a change in sensation throughout my lungs. I kept getting this funky feeling in different places yesterday - NOT painful just an odd kind of sensation I can't really explain and then the area would just kind of relax. Almost as if to say okay we are good now in this part of the lung.

Anyway, thank you guys.

Also Mel I know exactly what you mean about it taking treatments a while to kick in. I am normally that way. The past 3 weeks is the first time that I have ever had immediate response from my body with treatments (mainly the saline) most of the time it takes a few hours for stuff to get loosened up and get moving.

Well Have a good one guys,
Lindsey

You know everyone is all so different. Like my husband had a big asthmatic component so that there were some antibiotics that really brought that on (that he still needed to be on sometimes). In that case, after he stoped his meds he would have about a week when his airways would open up (no real ashtma) and he would cough up a couple of weeks of nasty. And some of the antibiotics made him feel like he was poisened (even tho the levels said he was OK and they weren'tofficially doing so) and it was an enormous relief to him them to be off of them - had lots more energy to do all sorts of stuff when they stopped - including more energy for effective coughing. ANd he was never on phypertonic saline (hadn't really come into vogue when he was alive) but he sort of discovered some of the effects for himself in that he would sometimes decide just use the sterile water and believe it or not that owould help a bit sometimes.

I think it is always sort of an ongoing experiment. YOu want to kill off the stuff and you want to cough up the stuff. Sometimes you can tell how well you're doing with that just by how your body feels - but usually it helps to be checking sputum and such for levels - not to mention checking PFTs and O2 levels.

I know it is heresay, but I wouldn't pay too much attention to what your mom thinks as long as you feel better every day and your doc thinks you are doig ok. As much as I was on my husband's side on these things, how I thought he was doing had as much to do with how I was doing emotionally as with his physical reality.

take care...

Wanted to add-
I get funny sensations, like you said, not pain but weird, in different areas of my lungs at different times seeming for no reason. Sometimes it feels like a pulled mucles that lasts for an hour then goes, sometimes its bubbles. This morning I couldn't tell if it was the birds chirping outside my window or my chest-it was my chest. When that happens, it lasts like an hour then later I cough up stuff. Meds don't seem to really do much either way.
I think its plugs moving-and since I started the hyp saline this happens all the time.
