Before my daughter was diagnosed with CF I did not know much about it and no one in my family ever mentioned a thing about it.
Once Emma was diagnosed my aunt mentioned that one of my Uncles had CF? WHAT?!?! I called my mom. This is her deceased brother (lets call him Tim) and she had never heard anything about it either. My mom suggested I call her oldest sister. I did and she never heard anything about it either. So I dropped it.
In the meantime, my mom talked to Tim's wife. Tim's wife says that Tim told her that he had CF and my grandparent's confirmed it to her. WOW But they all told her he outgrew it. hmmm... I think not.
Tim and both of his parents are deceased, so I cannot ask them myself. Here is wht I do know...
*Tim had pneumonia alot as a child.
*Tim's parents brought him to the Mayo Clinic. (some say this is where he was diagnosed with CF).
*1 aunt and Tim's wife say my grandma did the patting on Tim's back when he was young.
*Tim suffered frequent bouts of heat stroke very easily.
*Tim died 5 years ago at about 58 years of age of lung cancer (due to smoking?). This was a reoccurance of lung cancer he had a few years earlier. At that time they removed part of a lung.
*Tim had 2 children.
What do you think? Much of the information sounds like CF, some does not. Obviously people do not outgrow it.
He has 7 brothers and sisters. 2 of them may have a different father. None of them have been tested. Some of them think I am nuts for thinking he had cf. A couple of them are not sure what to think. And a couple of them are sure he had it. I am just confused.
I would also like to say... I think it is important that we pass on the information of our health onto the next generations of our families. It is ridiculous to me that these things were kept so secretive in the past!
