Zosyn and bleeding

this happened to me one time on zosyn. my doctor said that hemo can happen on ivs because the ivs are breaking stuff up and exposing raw, sometimes bloody tissue in the lungs. does this make sense? sounds like it could be what's going on with you. the amount of blood associated with this kind of hemo would be small, streaking mostly with maybe a little straight blood.

My Doctor switched me to iv Cipro and Merrem and took me off the Zosyn. So it looks like i have another 2 weeks of iv's which is ok with me since i feel pretty good and it will only help me more in the long run.

Laura, It does make sense what you had said and that would explain the streaks, but this was full-on blood with no mucus at all. The kind where you hear the gurgle between spits ( scary). I dont mind the streaks, but when its full on blood i mind very much after what i have been thru in the past ( had massive hemoptysis 6 years ago ) It is always possible the Zosyn worked well for me and cleared some stuff out and exposed a weak area. Hopefully the iv Cipro will help heal it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

You know that idea ran thru my head. That maybe its the Pulmozyme. I've never had a problem with it before, but i am going to stop it for a few days and see what happens.
