Zosyn by itself?

I had to go to the hospital because of stomach pains and a fever. They're giving me Zosyn by itself. I know it works on the stomach, but it also works on PA. I always thought you had to use two IV drugs to reduce PA resistance.

Any thoughts or experience with this?

Thanks,

RD

For years I was able to get away with just Tobra for my PA. As my CF progressed I started needing combinations of antibiotics even tho testing showed the PA was sensitive to all of the meds individually.

For me there is something about the "cocktail" that does the trick. Not just what tests show should/shouldnt be.

I wouldnt worry about it at this point. Unless in the past you have had an actual need for more then one antibiotic.

I usually take 2 at a time but I have beenon just zoysn before on its own. It just depends on what they feel they need for you at this point. Sometimes one will be just fine. Everyone is diff and maybe they feel that this is good for where you are at right now at this point.

I don't think they use two iv drugs to prevent resistance. I think it is because it 'just works better'. That the PA really has no chance at all, even when one ab doesn't work completely the other ab is there to help too.

I understand you worry about getting resistant to Tazosyn. You could ask if there is another ab that will work for your stomach and that they don't use for treating your PA?
For me it wouldn't matter cause really it doesn't work on my PA anymore, i only have Tobra and Colistin now. And for me, i would be very carefull and would not take these abx for something other then treating PA. But his is purely because i'm already resistant to so much.

Hope you feel better soon!
