Flonase contains alcohol and causes high rates of epistaxis (check out the prescribing information at www.flonase.com).

Nasonex and Nasacort AQ both don't contain alcohol, but Nasacort AQ has been proven to be more efficacious than Nasonex.

So go back on the Allegra....it wasn't the culprit.

Unfortunately - allergy medication isn't as cut and dry as X is always better than Y is always better than Z. Certain medications will work better for some people than others. I would agree that Allegra is a good starting point, but it just isn't going to work for everyone.

I've had lifelong allergy and asthma problems. I was on Seldane before it was pulled from the market. It worked great for me. After that - Allegra, Claritin, Singulair... all of which barely touched my allergy problems. Zyrtec has been the only allergy med to deal with all of my allergy problems (I can even tolerate cats for a few hours, which I never could previously).

In the end - like all of medicine, one size does not fit all. Experiment on yourself (or your children as the case may be) to find out what works best with the fewest negative side effects.

I have the exact same problem! Claritin worked wonders for me, then when OTC now Zyrtec works wonders and is OTC...Allegra did squat for me! It makes me mad too.

Does anyone know if Zyrtec OTC would be at all different from Zyrtec prescription? B/c ever since I bought the OTC I have had many more allergy problems. I might call my doc about it.
