Zyvox antibiotic and MRSA Staph

As LouLou stated Vanco and Zyvox (also known as linezolid) are also my go-to drugs for MRSA. In fact, I am on my 3rd week of home IV's on Zyvox and Cephapime. At start of IV's my PFT's had pretty much been the lowest I have ever blown-34%. Just had a follow up last week and they are up to 65%. The only side effect I have w/ the Zyvox is heart burn/ reflux type issues. So, I take Prevacid when I am on Zyvox.

I do not have MRSA but finished my second course of zyvox in December. I have PA and achrombacter that are both pretty resistant. I thought I would mention my experience becuase it seems to be unique and have the doctors scratching their heads a bit.

I get really really really tired as the course goes on. I work full time and I absolutely have to stay home and I ended up not working from home on my laptop either. It seems the longer time goes on the more fatigued I get. By the end of the first week I am sleeping a solid 12-15 hours a day or at least in bed just relaxing. I am NEVER like this even with an exacerbation and it increases as time goes on and I get better which is why I associate it with teh zyvox. I also never had this with any other IV combo.

I, for one, am thinking more along the lines of zyvox putting a strain on my body in some other organ system or sleep cyle that has this affect more than it being a 'true' side effect but just FYI.

My 5 year old has been on Zyvox 3x for MRSA with few effects. He is about to go on IV Vanco next week for it. It did make him a little moody and a faster heart rate but he's only 5 so that may have had something to do with it. Good luck. It was crazy expensive...We paid $1,800 for a two week dose...

I meant to say with few side effects! It did do its job and he felt much better than with the Bactrim or Clindamycin...
