    Bacterial intestinal overgrowth

Does anyone have any experience with bacterial intestinal overgrowth? My just turned 9 year old son has had this issue for a while. It was first diagnosed last spring (probably had a lot longer) and he is on his third round of Flagyl. He may be on constant cycles. He gets severe nausea and...

    Bad tasting oral antibiotics....

My son (just turned 9) has done about 15 antibiotics (including flagyl twice, cipro and dioxy) in the past 20 months (some of it due to lymes and a foot infection). Anyway, we have mixed it in a 2 ounce cup with juice, plugged his nose, gave candy afterward, let him measure (with my help)...

    Advice for loss

I don't have any ideas, my heart breaks thinking about dealing with this with my just turned 9 year old son. My prayers are with you that you have the "right" words and that your son is receptive to hearing them.

New Member with Question about Hormones/CF

Hi, My soon to be 9 year old boy is completely p/i. Creon has changed his life, but he too is part monkey and always on the move. He is a dancer (ballet, tap and jazz since 2 and just won a local award) and withhis crazy dance schedule over the summer, he has not gained any weight. What I...

Finally received okay from insurance for Ambry testing!

Hi, I would think (and I could be wrong) that it means that they did not find anything with the first screening and went on to do the extended and maybe the duplications/deleations. My son only showed positive on the second stage and is headed for duplications/deleations to confirm the second...

Common Cold & CF --- 11 Years old & Other Questions

I am so sorry you are going through this. We go through it every time Justin (8 almost 9) gets a cold. He has been on 11 antibioitcs in 18 months (1 for lymes disease and 1 for surgery to remove a piece of wood from his foot). He goes from normal to needing antibiotic and oral steriod in just...

    Camping

I agree. We have an RV and take our almost 9 year old often. I also agree with bottled water and avoiding smoke from the camp fire. Other than that, I would encourage him as he gets older to be outdoors and active. My son loves to hike with me and it is good for his lungs :)

    Test Result

Hi, We were in a similar boat two years ago. My son is completely PI (enzyme side) but passed a sweat test and only has one known mutation. He did receive a diagnosis almost two years ago. Treatment has helped so much. The enzymes allow him to digest food. He still has iron issues (had a...

    A sick plan that works

We do xopenex by neb twice a day (more if he is exercising) even without a cold. For Justin, because he has a significant bronchiospam component, we do 14 days antibiotic and 10 steriod every time he gets sick because his 25/75 drops drastically with a cold. Luckily for us, our ped is the...

At what age did your kiddos start culturing bad stuff!!

My son was diagnosed at 7 (watched since he was 6). He has only cultured h. influ, staph (for the past year or so) and strep. The h. influ was the first 6 months, went away, and then was back after a year or so. Not sure if it will be there in Sept or not. He has not made it 3 months without...

    Question about drop in PFT's - 25-75

Hi, I have a question that maybe someone might have thoughts on. My 8 year old son has had several "infections" or flares since Feb. In March he had just finished a round of predn and his 25/75 was at the highes it has been for him, a 97%, 25 was 99%, 50 was 83% and 75 was 71%. I am assuming...

    feeling sorry for ourselves...

As a mother we all go through feeling sorry for ourselves and our children. I just put my son to be AGAIN with a "Mommy, I don't feel good" and knowing he is on the 4th antibiotic since Feb. Just when we feel we can't take any more, our children need us and we muster up the strength and...

Asia and her make a wish

We are so excited for her. My 8 year old son dances. He does jazz, tap and ballet and it is one of his favorite times. He NEVER gives up. Even when he has been really in pain (GI and breathing) he never lets on. He laid on the floor between performances of the Nutcracker this year with...

HELP please! CF clinic wants to change dx to CRMS

Hi, I want to share our story. My son is one of those qwirky cases. He is completely pancreatic insufficent (25 on fecal elastase) since he was 6. Because they only found 1 mutation on the testing and he passed the sweat test, he was followed "as if" but not truly diagnosed. Unfortunately...

    Trying to rid PA!

My son is GF, egg free, corn, nuts (tree and pea), beef, fish, shell fish, and pork. Frankly it stinks, but because of other health issues (eosinophilic esophagitis) we do what we have to do. He is "allergic" to milk, but because it is so important for him to maintain weight and growth, we do...

feeling like I'm on an alien planet ;)

Hi, My son was diagnosed late, but we did have a lot of GI issues (eosinophilic esophagitis, GERD, etc) and pulmonary (apnea, laryngomalacia, bradycardia) along with whatever may have come from the CF as my son was a baby. I nursed him exclusively for the first 15 months and then continued...

    Bronchititis question

Hi, My beautiful 8 year old son came down with bronchitis almost 2 weeks ago. He started to cough and after his Great Strides walk over a week ago on Saturday, was pretty sick. He ended up on steroids (9 days) and antibiotic (14 days). He is just finishing the oral steroids and still on...

i'm gonna suffer in years too come!!

I am so sorry for you. I wish you did not have to go through this and, at such a tender age, make decisions to either be "normal" now or live longer and better latter. It is so unfair. I realize everyday that my 8 year old son will too have to find his way through this path. I hope and pray...
