we had this issue with a family member also....our doc told us to have the family member tested to see if the staph is active or dormant. there is a series of 3 test that they take and they can tell... the family members doc must order the test and it is "iffy" whether or not insurance will pay...

wow!! i truly dont know how you handle that! i have a really good article on 3rd hand smoke (on clothes, hair, furniture, etc, and how it affects others) you should read and blow it up to like a 30ft by 50ft poster and hang in front of your house....(ok, maybe i get carried away on this topic...

i would definatley express to the doc that the cough is getting much worse and ask what they think the odds are that the colomycin will knock it out....they may be trying to hold off on the iv antibiotics (which antibiotics are they planning on using??? tobi??) iv tobi, over an extended period...

my little one had a bronch/lung lavage last summer and it went very smooth...they did it in the o.r. not the picu...but she seemed to not have any difficulty afterward and we went home 4 days later on iv antibiotics. i think it took 3 or 4 days to find out what was being cultured, but i cant...
