I've had various episodes of hemoptysis over the past 3 years. I'm 48 now. The first massive episode, which my Dr. defines as more than 8 oz., required embolization. The description by jricci was spot on. I had to stay in the hospital for 3 days, b/c of fever and terrible headache that...
I was 38! I'm now 48. Chronic lung problems all my life. I was told Asthma/allergy. Tested positive on Sweat Chloride test at age 22, but I was told the numbers weren't valid for adults. Tested again at 38 and started treatments. Quality of life is a hundred times better now! I'd say get...
I just got a letter from my insurance saying Pulmozyme is now on the non-preferred drug list, b/c there is a new generic called Acetylcyst solution. Has anyone used it? I was able to refill Pulmozyme under my co-pay assistance plan, but I'm not sure how long that will work.
Thanks!
Rhonda
I have a lot of issues with hemoptysis. After a massive episode, it can take a week or two for the brown to go away. It's really not fun. It will turn all sorts of crazy dark shades before it goes back to "normal". The dark gray is the strangest in my opinion.
Unsporty person here :)
I don't usually enjoy exercise. I started a couple of years ago walking with a couple of friends first thing in the morning. We are now up to 4 miles in 1 hour. We try to do this at least 3 days a week. It is my social time as well as fitness time. I miss visiting...
Have you heard of 23andme.com ? It's a basic genetic test that costs $99. It's a cheek swab. I think it would be a starting place if you decide to try to find out if you husband is a carrier. BTW, I have a mild form of CF (no pancreatic involvement), and I had no trouble getting pregnant...
Vest available
I saw this post today. Have you seen it? I hope you can find her on here. I got my vest with a LOT of assistance from Hill Rom. It's been a long time, but worth looking in to. DianeF Junior Member Join DateSep 2013Posts1

Nagging Cough
The best thing that works for me when I get my nagging unproductive cough is Delsym. It doesn't last me 6 or 12 hrs like it claims, but it lasts about 4 and I take it again. Codeine works, but makes me itch after a couple of doses. Unrelenting coughs are dreadful, b/c they...
I just finished a week of TOBI Podhaler with no adverse affects. It worked wonders in 7 days! I must have been really fighting pseudomonas for a while, because, it's been a really long time since I've been this clear. Secretions are clear and watery! Great News! NOW if only I can get my...
Diagnosed at 38. Lifelong symptoms. Lung surgery at 6 yrs to remove what they thought was a disease isolated to the right middle lobe. Continuously at Dr.s with "Asthma and Allergy". Had a positive sweat chloride, but no gene identified at age 22. My gene is very rare, so I don't think they...
It was a year and a half before I had another massive bleed (more than 1 cup). I've had minor bleeds throughout that time. From my understanding, it is probably another artery that's bleeding this time. I've cut out all NSAIDS/Aspirin products and recently found out that fish oil is a blood...
embolization with fever
I did have fever the day after my embolization along with an excruciating headache. I had a bronch bf the procedure, too. Dr. explained it was the bodies reaction to blood supply being cut off in that area. Other than that, and the huge groin bandage, it wasn't too...
Remedies for lost voice
I have a problem with losing my voice from time to time. ENT has not figured out why. I know TOBI contributes, but I'm not using it anymore. My vocal cords get red and inflamed. I think it might be related to inhaled steroids. The only solution (and I've tried...
Tobi podhaler
Have you started the process for TOBI Podhaler, yet? If you apply before August 2013, copay is free. After August 2013, it's $10. It requires forms to be filled out online by both patient and Dr. I just applied earlier this week. Hoping to get it soon :) www.TOBIPODHALER.com...
Please, Don't touch the baby :)
I learned that wearing my baby in a sling when in public, was a great deterrent. I like the hands free options for shopping and safety feature (no one could grab her), too. I know I was a little paranoid as a new mother :)
