I just talked to my pulmonary clinic today and they told me the ran out of flu shots!!! I can't believe it, I don't know what I'm going to do. They just started giving them out and now they are already out. It's a big clinic in Boston---can't believe they don't have anymore.
Yeah, my back hurts wicked bad whenever I have been coughing alot. I also get really bad pleurisy whenever I am sick or getting sick too. Tylenol doesn't usually help with the pain at all. I find that Motrin helps for the back pain. For the pleurisy I have tried everything from Percocet to...
I think about this alot too. I do not have a port. I still get PICC lines (about every 4 months for IVs) I get them put in in interventional radiology. The last one I got put in was in september and they had a really tough time of it. It eventually went in after about an hour. I fell...
I completely agree. You need to stick up for your son. There are laws against discriminating against people with "disabilities" such as CF. By not cooperating with you to help your son have a positive school experience they are essentially discriminating againt him. He's only 13, thats a...
Hey Emily,
I just read on another thread that you go to Northeastern Univ? I work at Brigham and Womens hospital---right down the street from you!! I pass NU everyday on my way to work! Pretty cool, we are neighbors!!
Same thing here. I had meconium ileus at birth too. The meconium is EXTRA thick in babies with CF so it tends to get stuck and cause a blockage (just like everything else is extra thick w/CF) So babies with CF have a tendency to have this problem. I had the same surgery as Emily at two days...
After any episode of hemoptysis I end up coughing up tons green sputum and having fevers. Blood in your lungs is the perfect breeding grounds for infections. I always get really sick after hemoptysis even if I have recently had a cleanout (which is usually when it happens) I will end up back...
I also had mostly digestive problems when I was younger (it all started @ birth w/ mec lieus obstruction) I have been on enzymes since birth. As I have gotten older my lung problems have increased with IV antibiotics needed about every three to four months. When I was younger I used to just...
They can diagnosis the baby with cf only by amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (placental biopsy). You should really check with your doctor and see if they mean that you are a carrier of a CF gene?
I work in the medical field. I am an ultrasound technologist. This job works really well for me. I absolutely love it. I work 32 hours a week.
I picked to go to school for ultrasound because I knew I could be in the medical field and NOT be exposed to sick people. I work in the...
Since you are pregnant, they probably did a test to see if you are a carrier of the CF gene. This is a routine screening blood test offered to most pregnant women now. Maybe she just meant that you are a carrier of one CF gene, which does not mean you have CF (you must have two to actually...
I was wondering if anyone had heard of or tried color light therapy? I have heard some stories about patients being cured of cancer and other ailments thru color light therapy. (It sounds kind of crazy to me)
I know CF is an entirely different thing and we can't be "cured" but I didn't know...
I also have aspergillus and treated it for a while with nebulized amphoteracyn (horrible) The treatments did not eliminate the aspergillus. My doc seem to think that since there is pseudomonas and other stuff growing in there anyways that we should just leave the aspergillus untreated. As far...
I started my period at about 15 but I wasnt regular until I was about 18 and I went on the pill. I have never had growth issues but my doctor said that just having cf can make your period be late and irregular.
Same thing for me. When I was little I had a beach ball like belly, my family used to call it my "dinasour egg". That was untill I was about 5 yrs old.
Now that I'm older thankfully the belly is not there anymore. But I do find that when I eat dairy of any kind I do get really bloated.
I take prilosec 40 mg. It helps tremendously. Before I started taking it I was needing Tums after everything I ate...even water! Now, I only have reflux very rarely.
I started having chest pt at birth, i was diagnosed at 2 days old. My mother had a home physical therapist come and help her learn how to do it properly. I believe it was set up thru the hospital. When I got a little older and more distracted, we would watch tv and sometimes she would even...
