Found in The Bostonian Alumni Magazine

Very interesting. Where he mentions that once b. cepacia "picks its environment" - do you think the reverse of what he said is also true? i.e. cepacia that has specialized itself as onion rot in our gardens and kitchens wouldn't be able to contaminate lungs?

    diagnosed with cfrd today

I am sorry to hear this as well. I have read over and over that CFRD doesn't typically show up until later in life. This suggests to me that some docs might shrug it off if a parent asks. So kudos to you and your care team that you caught it now. My other thought is that you might get more...

    NEED POOP PICTURES PLEASE!

While still in diapers, there was orange oil that separated out of the stool and was absorbed in obvious stripes at both side edges of the diaper. Once potty trained, there was orange oil floating on top of the water. Looked like the grease you would see in a pot of chili on the stove. Blech...

    ndm-1 enzyme

I was just reading about this myself. Does seem a little scary. I didn't read the article from your link but what I was reading suggested it was spreading partly because of people from Britain and other countries using "medical tourism" in India, where there is "an irrational use of...

    Preventative measures for lung health

Yikes, the response by the pulmonologist really bothers me! IMHO there is every reason to try to improve your son's PFTS! It makes me crazy when it appears that a care provider has adopted the "that's what people with CF are like" attitude. We do what I would consider a full regimen for...

    GENE MUTATION

Hi Katie - regarding your question about a dominant gene, what they may be referring to is that the mildest mutation usually governs the expression of symptoms. That is why carriers typically don't have any symptoms. They have enough functionality of the CFTR from their non-mutated...
