Air Purifier...

The ionic ones actually produce ozone, which, as you probably know, is an airway irritant. Some of them come with "ozone guards," but my grad school professor, who specializes in indoor air quality, said they don't work that well. The HEPA + activated carbon ones work the best. The one I have is really LOUD though, so I only use it at night.

Nightwriter had given me some info on purifiers given to her by her CF doc a few months back and linked me to the site of the one she has:

I just ordered the AirMedic Exec after discussing with a representative which would be best for me with a severe dust allergy and asthma. They're spendier than some on the market, but they have carbon filters in addition to HEPA, which I understand has even better air-cleaning qualities. Carbon is the stuff they use in gas masks for the military, so if it filters out chemicals in that case, I figure it will do the job in my bedroom. Its also on wheels, so I can wheel it to the room I'm in at any given time. Nice benefit IMO.

Anyway, I will update once I get it. It should ship this week. I'm sooo excited cause our house is very very dusty no matter how much we clean.

Oh, and as far as ozone, I used to have an ionic purifier that used ozone and never had any problem until I started having more issues with my asthma. Now, when I visit my parents, who have that kind, my lungs immediately feel tight and we turn it off for the duration of my visit.

I did ALOT of research before investing in one this year. We have two dogs and I am allergic to everything plus we have a home with a damp basement and I have ABPA. Soooo here is my journey. Next post in my blog is after I got it. I have to say I am SO thrilled with it I am putting up another $800 to get the compact one for the upstairs in my house YES I can tell a difference from floor to floor now.

i have two oreck air purifiers in my room and i love them. i can sleep so much better and i don't wake up feeling like my sinuses are clogged and that my throat is sore. there even better if you have pets in your house. some air purifiers can have little sent pads in them if you want. just do your research before buying one.
