Another one from me...PA from shower steam?

Okay, it's been a while since one of my ponderables....

We know that pseudomonas is everywhere. However, have any of you given thought to shower steam as a contributing factor to PA infection? If hot tubs should be avoided, wouldn't it stand to reason that inhaling steam during a shower may be a concern as well? Ah, yea....and then what? Hmm...some crazy shower head filtration system that must be portable for travel? Ah, sheesh.

While I lived in PA I had a friend with a kid with cf who was on the CHOP advisory board. One of the mother's in the group had a pre-teen that had never taken a shower and wasn't allowed to dunk her head in the bathtub. These were ways they were avoiding PA. These were rules they had come up with on their own, not their doctors...or at least not their CHOP doctors. I don't know if it helped or not. Seems extreme to me. So much for going swimming in the lake, eh?

Absolutely yes! Any water-borne bacteria can be breathed in through steam. Our doctor told us to bleach the shower heads often. SHe also recommended that the boys not use a small shower stall to shower.

Having said that though, PA is everywhere. You can do your best but can't live in a bubble.
