Antibiotics and Acid Reflux

Hey guys,

I was wondering what helpful tips you guys had for dealing with acid reflux caused by meds.

Normally I do not have a problem with acid reflux - if I do it is nothing that is every noticeable to me. I am currently on IV med, a strong oral and aerosolized TOBI. I think the IV med and the oral are causing me some reflux problems as they indicated that may occur when I was in the hospital. I am having a hard time today - up until today I haven't had a problem. I am bothered though because I have no clue of anything I can take to help with the reflux except for a prescription - which I will say I do NOT have a prescription for a med for relux anyway.

I would like to hear some ideas or if you guys use any over the counter stuff. Again sorry if this seems like an ignorant question - but I normally don't have problems with this stuff, so I don't usually worry with it.

Prilosec is basically half-strength Prevacid. It works great for me. It ends up more expensive buying over the counter than prevacid with insurance, but I was told that it's better to use the lower strength if it works for me and so to suck it up and pay the cost.

Not sure if it helps, but I think prilosec would definitely be worth trying..

I find Gaviscon (i think that may be spelled right) is a good choice for temporary acid problems. The prilosec/prevacid is DEFINITELY a better idea for long term, but gaviscon gets to the point and I don't get any other gastro issues from it. And I find it to taste oddly good. Well good mgiht be strong, but the original flavor strikes me as fun!

Pepto Bismal works for me in a pinch. I take Omeprazol for acid reflux on a regular basis, but when I'm needing that extra kick, Pepto works.
