Hello,

I posted a question about this a week or two ago and no one really spoke to the second part of it, so I'm trying again with just one question this time... LOL!

Question: If you have medicare as primary insurance, how do they handle things like starting your IVs in the hospital and then going home on home health? How long do you have to stay in the hospital before you can go home? Does Medicare cause any serious "issues" with regard to doing the rest of your IVs at home?

Thanks!

As I told you in your other post.....I have Medicare as secondary, but from what I know there are only certain EXCEPTIONS when medicare will pay for home iv's.

I know Kevin & Just Ducky always said they had to be admitted for their iv's because Medicare was primary & wouldnt pay for home iv's.

Thanks, Mel...

Yeah, I do remember you saying that, but wanted first-hand accounts as I do remember a year or two ago someone was having issues with this and Julie had mentioned something about medicare paying for home health??? Unless I was dreaming... It actually was a very similar post to my question. I can't find the old post on it so I was just hoping someone who has actually been through this process and gone home on IVs (or not been able to) will respond.

I also spoke directly with medicare who said if a doctor deems it "medically necessary", home health after a hospitalization IS covered if you stay in the hospital 3 days... I'd never heard of anyone doing this so that is why I was hoping someone who has tried would respond. PLEASE... anyone? I know I'm not the only one with medicare primary on here.

Thanks for your response though, Mel. I'm just really concerned about this.

I just found something that pretty much sums up my question:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.cysticfibrosis.com/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=39891&highlight_key=y&keyword1=medicare">http://forums.cysticfibrosis.c...ey=y&keyword1=medicare</a>

I'm still interested in hearing what peoples' experiences are with this though if you have medicare as your primary insurance, as the post above makes me a little nervous.

Thanks!
