Baby Update

Just a quick update everyone, the babies weights last week were:
A (cassandra) 2lbs
B (Boy 1) 1lb 14oz
C (Boy 2) 1lb 11 oz

The doctor was a bit concerned by the low weight of the boys, Cassie is at 68% but they are at about 40% and 14% respectively. She was also concerned about my 1lb weight gain in the previous 2 weeks (YIKES). So this past week I did a lot better and gained 3lbs in 7 days, despite record heat in WA.

They didn't do the weights this week, but they will again last week.

I got hooked up to a contraction monitor because the doc wanted to know if I was feeling all my contractions. The good news is, I am feeling all of them, even the small ones. But I must not be able to tell time very well because I had been calculating that they were about 15 mintues apart on average, but the machine showed they were consistent every 5-6 minutes. OH BOY!!!!

She's also a bit concerned (this is the WOMANLY part) because my cervix was about 4.5 cm long last week, and it is 2.9 cm this week. She says it's still over average for how far along I am, but she's very concerned that it changed this much in only one week. So.....

she gave me a medication called Terbutaline that is mainly used for athsma patients but in recent years is also used to stop preterm labor. She warned me it might cause my heart to speed up a little bit (nothing new because I've had a lot of abnormal heart stuff for a few months now) and might cause me to have a hard time falling asleep. I took my first dose at 6pm yesterday.... OH MY GOD.

After about an hour I was thinking, "this isn't bad at all, no rapid heart rate..." Well I thought too soon because my heart rate sped up a while later and then I started getting shakey and couldn't sit still and then on the way home I was literally climbing all over the car. Window down, window up, window down, tugging at my hair, moving my seat back, fourth, reclining, sitting up, open the back window, turn the radio up, turn it down... and then I got really irritable and mean and cranky and well, I think you get the picture.

And then we got home and went to bed at about 10pm. At midnight I was still rolling aroudn in bed, so I tried the guest bed... no luck there. So I moved to the recliner and no luck there. By this time I started pacing aroudn the house and crying (really great for contractions to get all stressed out and not be able to sit still and relax). Then I tried the couch, this was at about 3am. I finally fell asleep for all of 30 minutes, was up for about 30 minutes and then went back to bed on the couch for another 45 minutes or so. Then at about 4:30 I was up, tried to go back to bed on the couch but I had no luck so I gave up and got up.

And now I get to do it all over again with my next dose of medication at 9am. I am going to put a call into my doctor... I don't think I can handle this.

I told my mom (whos a labor and Delivery RN) and she told me that it sounds like I had a bad reaction to it, not everyone reacts that severely but it can and does happen. She did tell me though, that after I take it for awhile I'll get use to it. I asked her in all seriousness, "is that before or after I drive myself mad and end up in the nuthouse and murder my husband" (poor Mark, he's done nothing wrong but this medicaiton makes me feel like a nutcase, climbing the walls and just wanting to scream and wring someone's neck).

So, that's my update everyone.

Hopefully next week's visit will be better and my cervix will not have changed a whole lot.

I don't have any new pictues of the babies because they are so crowded in there and really cant' get any anymore (unless you want to see a spine or a butt ). I will have Mark take a belly picture sometime this coming week and I'll update the site with that, but I don't think there will be any new baby pictures until they get here... ONLY 8 more weeks to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not know how you do it! Before you know it you will be holding them in your arms. That is wonderful that your Mom is a nurse. What a Bonus. I hope she is moving in with you or staying close by to help you out in the beginning.
Take care

Thanks Risa. I've had it really really easy thusfar, my doctor is really happy and she's still allowing me to be somewhat active, but wants me to take it easy. So I definately have no complaints. But those meds did a number on me, I still feel all jittery....

Wow babe!

Hang in there-that's all I can say. It will be over soon. Think how fast 8 weeks goes. I know I'm one to talk, right?! I don't have 3 squeamers in me.

Hope your cervix hangs in there too!

Oh Julie Terbutline is horrible to be on.. It is a blessing and cure all rolled into one.. Just like the steroids I take... But the benefits outweigh the pain in the neckness of it all.

If you are up again tonight, come to chat, try to hang in there.. What I tell myself when I am on high doses of steroids is to give myself a break, I know not to call certain ppl because ThEY can't handle it when I am like that but I also know who I can call and be a lunatic too.

You can talk to us, we are here for you.. Mark will understand and he will tease you about it after the babies are born........

Know we are thinking of you,

Love and Much Understanding,

Jennifer

Thanks everyone, finally fell asleep and got about 3 hours of sleep. The doctors office got back to me right away, they said I sounded a little stressed (I think it was the lack of sleep and still having the jitters).

The doctor said that it sounds like I had a pretty bad reaction (he wasn't happy when I told him that I felt I was on the verge of getting violent and bitting Mark's head off and was crying...) so he ONLY wants me to take it my contractions are 8 in an hour and at that he wants me to take 1/4 of the pill i (it's a 5mg pill) instead of the 1/2 I took last night.

So far, no more than 6 contractions in 1 hour so I hope it stays that way and I don't have to take this stuff again. It does look like I may not quite make it 8 more weeks though if my cervix keeps up like this.... I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks for the posts and support!!

Leeann, Thanks so much. We still have quite a bit of time left so don't rush yourself!!!!

Wow that would make me nuts too! I love my sleep and go crazy when I don't get any! I was thinking about you last weeked with the heat! I was absolutely miserable and I'm not preggers! I hope they get you straightened out with this med.

By the way, I know Evergreen Hospital very well! My chick doctor used to be there and I spent a day there with a horrific kidney infection. So, I'll send you an email with my phone number and you make sure I get call when the babies arrive and if you want I can update everyone on here for you! I'm so excited for you!!! Oh yeah, and I need your address so I can send you a wedding invite too.

I'll PM you my address. I'd love it if I could call you when the babies arrive and you could update everyone, it's funny that we live so close!! Might have to fight it out with online auntie Jennifer though

Lucky for me, my mom worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse for a number of years at evergreen hospital and then was their union representative for 2 years and she fought and won a lot of benefits for the nurses. She's well liked (although hard headed just like me-LOL) so that's good for me. I never throw her name out, but people remember me from when I was younger and ask, or they've seen her there with me and ask and it gets around that I'm her daughter.

I felt like I could have killed someone last night and that freaked me out. It took all my energy and concentration to just keep myself under control.
