Bedroom air quality help....

Well, I admit I love my ionic breeze. I hadn't heard that stuff about ozone-and I will research it now that I have.
Until then, I will say that I can tell the difference when I don't have it on and when I do-when I don't I cough more in the night. I've used one for 4 years. I'm open minded enough to research it, though I have heard a downside conspiracy story to just about everything in life-including drinking 8 glasses of water a day. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> j/k for all you ionic breeze haters!!!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I read the link-it was interesting. But it shows the speculation that the bad report may have been heresy or maliciousness. Maybe I'm not reading it right-but I don't feel like it really said much about the product.
Please keep em coming, I'd love to hear some more. In the meantime I'm going to try to find something.

I bought myself an air purifier last spring, and I love it! I definitly notice a difference in my breathing. I got a Honeywell Air Purifier Tower with HEPA filter. The HEPA filter helps remove 99% of mold spores, tobacco smoke, cat dander, dust and pollen. It also has an electronic filter, a permanent washable pre-filter, and it has an antimicrobial treatment that helps prevent mold growth on the filter. It also has an option for an Ionizer (I can either switch it on or off), but I haven't noticed anything bad to do with my health. I know that you can get some air purifiers that remove germs, but those run into the $300-400 range.

Well thank you thankyou! I looked at that link, and it makes sense. My concern is-1st, my unit is over 5 yrs old so its one of the higher ozone emitting units. 2nd, if this is really more affecting people with asthma or lung problems, I don't think I should use it. I think I'm going to toss it. It's old anyway so I don't feel bad about it.

If it was any other magazine I'd probably have diregarded it. But I use consumer reports all the time. i buy things depending on their review and I've never been dissapointed. I guess that's why Sharper Image is so upset!!

So maybe its better to just install a hepa filter on your airconditioning unit??

PLEASE don't use the air purifiers that clean the air using ions. The ionizing function breaks apart molecules (turning them into unpaired electrons called ions) that are the basic for most bacterial odors. Although they are very effective at removing odors, they are notorious for generating ground level ozone. Ground level ozone can cause a reduction in lung function.

People with allergies and CF should look into HEPA filter systems. My personal and professional choice for an air filter is the Bionaire Tower. It is very efficient; the price is great; it's far and away the quietest air filter I've found for its size. My favorite features are that it oscillates (which means it is able to do an even better job of moving the air) and it has a remote control.

SEARS has two different sizes of the Bionaire HEPA tower. They both have an independent ionization function, which, for the most part I leave turned off. The only time I had the ionizer switched on was when we first moved into our new house and the air conditioner wasn't installed yet. Since our windows were open a lot of the time for ventilation, I ran the filter with the ionizer on (while I was out of the room) to break down the emissions from passing cars (we live on a busy street.

I am exceptionally pleased with the Bionaire product. I have researched air filters and purifiers for a number of years now, and this one has the technology and aesthetics that I deem acceptable.

I have 2 of these units. One for upstairs and one for downstairs. So far so good.
