Ok yes this is somewhat off topic and I am sorry but it has been plaguing me for a year.

Does anyone else wear the patch? I wear it on my butt and by the end of the week it is so gross! It have moved and I have band-aid stuff all over my butt and I don't know what to do about it. I gotta say I never wear any thongs or anything sexy because my butt looks disgusting. Help!

Ok, yes in the scheme of things it is not a big deal but it still really bothers me and my doctor won't switch me to the pill because she says that because of CF making birth control less effective she if afraid I will forget the pill

This is the most I will ever talk about my butt. EVER<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I used to be on the patch.. but like all birth control.. it wasn't effective.. I had wacky periods all the time... but I know exactly what you're talking about... I hated it too.. but to be honest.. I loved it much much more than the pill.. I was much better at "taking it" than I was the pill... the only consolation is that the weird stuff comes off kinda easy once the patch is gone.

I didn't have any luck with the patch either. I actually would have pains down the leg on the side where I put it...It made me SUPER tired...
It's all the antibiotics I would guess that make it less effective. right??
What about the "ring". I guess you put it "there" once a month and take it out to have your period for 7 days...I tried that for a while and it was comfortable.

Well, I don't have CF and I don't wear a BC patch but I do use an estrogen patch and have the same problem. I've found it helps if I remove the patch while showering. The water and soap make it less painful to remove and it's easier to remove the residue. I've heard babyoil works, too?! Haven't tried it though.

I have been on the patch for a little over a year as well. I normally wear the boy cut undies-so it prevents the adhesive from sticking to pants and such and it kind of keeps it from looking nasty.

Two thing I will suggest though. 1 I have found to be helpful for me and the other I have not tried but have heard about.

1. Try putting the patch on several hours after a shower. I normally wait until I have been out of the shower a LONG time before removing my old patch and putting on the new one. I do this because I found that when I put my patch on even an hour after my shower it would slide"slide around". I wait until later in the day when I know most of the moisture is out of the skin and put it on, it has helped a great deal in preventing the patch from moving - at least that works for me.

2. As for the adhesive I have heard that you can use baby oil around the patch and it will remove the excess adhseive. I think the problem with the adhesive on the patch comes from the packaging. I have noticed that when I take the patch out of the packaging there is always some excess at/around the edges. If you put the patch on and let it set for a short period then maybe wipe the area with a cotton ball with some baby oil maybe that will remove the extra adhesive and prevent the gooey nasty crap from being there all week.

I personally haven't tried the baby oil trick, just something I heard but wanted to offer up here.

Sue, Last year a study was released that showed the there is a higher level of circulating estrogen with the patch vs the pill or the ring. The concern is an increased risk of blood clots and stroke. Ask your doctor about this. Women seem to really like the Nuva Ring and it may help women who are troubled with BV (bacterial vaginosis, which is different than a vaginal yeast infection) which one of my CF friends tell me is a problem for her.
