Last time I flew was a little over a year ago.
However, I had a similar experience to Lindsey, except the person frisking me was a woman with a very deep voice (and she was bigger than me!)
I had no medical equipment, but brought one of my laptops. I got into a big hassle when they didn't demand that I take my laptop out of the case. Even when I asked, I was ignored, they just took the bag as is and ran it through the X-ray machine! When they soon asked "What's in the bag, sir!?", I replied with, "My computer, but no one told me to take it out...can I take it out, now?"...the husky lady soon replied with a loud "Don't Touch IT!", as if it were something already ready to go off!
Anyway, did you ask the airlines about your meds, and special equipment? My mom has to take an oxygen tank, and there were a lot of things that had to be done, most of which I beleive the airlines had to do (but she was without oxygen for over a half hour!).
They still have random searches, I'm sure...I got caught in that routine, as well! (had to take my shoes off, but fortunately I didn't have to get stripped searched, or something!) Not fun getting picked at random when you're running late, because they didn't properly check your bags or something!
I was pretty peeved, too!! Sometimes those guard-men can be so "authority-hungry", they give you an attitude!
Though nothing peeved me so much as to when I came back to Japan, with a greeting from the "drug, tobacco, and firearm" K-9's!! I think they were so happy to see me, the guardmen there thought I was smuggling in something (or maybe it was the left-over gun powder smell from when I went shooting with my brother-in-law the day before). They took me into a private room, searched all my bags, despite the fact the dogs were acting funny BEFORE the bags were in my hands! I had med samples that my sister gave me...thought they were gonna end up being illegal in Japan (LOL!). But, good thing they didn't find the shell casings I took home as "going-away-presents"!
Just hope I don't have to travel with my Japanese sword...that'll be a nightmare! (I'd end up UPS'ing it, anyway!)
