Caught a cold

I've had a cold since Monday. Sore throat, runny nose, and cough. The "Raw" pain in my throat has been slowly moving down into my lungs/upper respitory (right below my collar bone). The pain kills me when I cough. I'm not coughing as much as yesterday and I don't have a fever. But every few minutes when I do cough, it just kills me.

I'm getting worried about this. I don't get many colds. Is this a common symptom?

What can I do about the pain. Ibuprofen and Tylenol don't help.

ooh, I hate those colds that move down into the lungs so fast. Be careful. It's probably just a really bad cold, but on the other hand there's some weird viruses going around. Give it a day or so and get it checked out. At least have a doctor listen to your lungs. A cold is one thing-pain is another. If it's pain from continuous harsh coughing or pneumonia-all the tylenol in the world won't help.

When i get a cold that moves that fast into my chest, i usually go on iv's. I have had pain with coughing and usually i take Tylenol., It helps but doesnt always get rid of it completely. Sometimes using the vest a bit longer or more often helps a bit though. Rest and extra fluids are a must for you right now, with a fast moving cold you need all the help you can get. Hope you feel better soon

Almost everytime I get one of those colds now, it inevitably becomes pneumonia of some sort. I even had that raw throat feeling too...if it is anything like what I had, I'd have some antibiotics ready just in case it gets out of hand.

what do you do if it becomes some sort of pneumonia? do you have to go into the hospital. i have the raw throat feeling right now also. sinus turned into throat and now it is in my lungs. can't talk and it burns. i am on levaquin and prednisone. should i wait and see how that goes? or do I assume it is pneumonia? this has got me worried now too!

Sue,
you may want to call your doctor and see what he/she has to say about it. I know that when i get a cold that starts out that way ( like you mentioned) it turns out to be a disaster for me and i usually wait too long before i call and get an iv started, and by then i am full blown sick. I do my iv's at home, so i dont get admitted. NO matter what, lots of fluids and rest is what your body needs now also. Feel better soon.

Feeling a little better today. I still have the pain, but I'm not coughing as much. I used the h saline twice already today and will try it again tonite, to help clear out my chest.
