Cf diet issues

No problem.

I used to have extremely bad insomnia. Getting healthier has mostly resolved my sleep issues. I'm not saying I sleep as well as a "normal" person. But I sleep better than I have in many years. I still sometimes have trouble getting to sleep and still sometimes wake up too early and then go to work on too little sleep. But I usually get at least 6 hours sleep and I usually get caught up again within a few days. It doesn't go on and on, torturously. I hope you find the answers that work for you on this issue. Sleep issues are pretty miserable to live with.

yeah they can be. I just also go through those times when even if I do lay down or sleep or rest for 12-13 hours, sometimes it just doesnt seem like its enough. I just get so exhausted. It doesnt matter if I go to bed at 9pm or 1am. If I have to get up and stay up at 7am. I literally cannot function. I will start to fall asleep doing whatever. I have fallen asleep cleaning the house. Or walking around picking up stuff after my daughter. I just dont get it. I honestly have had this issue all of my life. I dont understand why I cant stay awake after getting up early in the morning. I can only stay awake if I get up after 10-11am. I have even went to a sleep specialist. He agreed that I have chronic insomnia. But he said that he would be wasting money if he did a sleep study on me. To see if there were any other sleeping issues I might have. So he prescribed me Ambien and then I never went back to him. I took it for about a month. And then one night my fiance said that I got up and started walking around the house eating and doing things without me remembering anything. I knew it was the ambien. since one of its side effects is AMNESIA. So I went back to just taking Amitryptaline. By itself. I still dont fall asleep until about two hours later. But I wake up about 4-5 times each night. I started taking Melatonin 5mg, along with Valerian Root with my Amitryptaline. That seems to help a little. I still wake up frequently, but I'm so close to just giving up on ever having a real night's sleep. With the supplements I only wake up like 2 or maybe 3 times, instead of 4-5. So like I said its not much, but its something. So for now. I just feel kinda stuck. I know I would probably do better with health and diet if I could be up long enough to actually eat better. I honestly dont eat more than 1200 calories a day. I'm just so confused sometimes about how this disease affects our bodies. And the unexplained things that the dr.s cant seem to help us get through. Well, I am so exhausted right now. I will do updates as soon as I know something. Thanks.!

Some things that were helpful to me with the sleep issue:
Taking co-q-10 in the morning, about 12 hours before bedtime. It is the co-enzyme to melatonin. Taking melatonin doesn't increase production of co-q-10 but taking co-q-10 does increase production of melatonin about 11 hours later. It helps straighten out the brain's waking/sleep cycle and is an important nutrient for other things as well.

Washing my bedding more often and eventually having less of it. Generally working on trying to get my bedroom and sleep area cleaner.

Working on getting infection under control. When I was sleeping 18 to 20 hours a day, one of the few things I did that was really helping me were daily hot baths. I did it to help the pain. I was in constant excruciating pain and at that point my only goal in life was to hurt less. At some point, I realized that the baths and other things I was doing was actually starting to kill off the infection(s) I had. I then began building on what was working. It was a long, slow haul back that picked up momentum much later.

Good luck.

I have been taking co-q-10 but I was never told that taking it in the morning was best. I knew that it was a co-enzyme to melatonin. I have been taking it for about a week now. I will try the morning thing. That is really good to know about the 11 hours later thing. You have been so helpful. If you have anymore advice you are more than welcome to pm me. Or I might pm you if its ok. When were you diagnosed with your cf? Were you an adult or a child?
