CF knuckle Heads.. NOT CHF

Well the story is unbelievable... really.. Yesterday I went to see my primary doctor... I had to have a follow up visit from being in the hospital...

I also wanted to discuss with him a game plan for next time I got sick..and to make sure he was fully aware of the horror that I experieced in the hospital.. I at first was downplaying it because I didn't think he would believe me..

Well not only did he believe me, he was fully aware of the things that happend and not only that, he added to it and said that they had my records wrong...and that the first few days they had on my record that I had CHF which is COngestive Heart Failure.. and not Cystic Fibrosis...and not only that, they treated me with lassix, which is a diuretic.... NO WONDER I WAS so deyhrated.. They also pushed IV meds for my heart that I should never have gotten..

SEe in my hospital they have standard orders for ppl admitted for CHF... so I was getting all these meds I shouldn't have.... My doctor is filing reports and taking care of things for me but can you imagine.. they can't even get CF right... My guess is that it was transcribed wrong and that the person doing the typing heard the doctor dicate CF and didn't know what it was, and just thought it was the standard CHF..

It is unreal to me that things like this happen..I would never believe someelse telling this story because it is just to crazy to believe...Guess that is my life

Wow! Thanks for sharing this.
It sure makes me want to be more pro-active in the future and ask what the name of the meds are that they are giving me & for them to explain why they are giving them to me.
I wonder how often this type of thing happens.......

I totally agree with you Lynda... You should always know what meds they are pushing in your IV or giving you.. I unfortunatly was still recovering from the surgery.. I was still out of it from the anesthia, I also had an NG tube in wrong so I got quite sick from that.. OTherwise I would have been able to catch the mistakes..

IT is so sad to me that we can't rely on our nurses to make sure the order is right.

You poor girl. Yes, you would think the nurses would catch that. If anything else, this will teach you as a nurse to check & double check everything when your patients are out of it, huh? Which, I'm sure you're doing already

edited to add: This isn't coming out right. I'm really not trying to insult you here I promise!! I'd take you as my nurse anyday!

Ha Emily you would think someone should be checking something....

Lynda, I totally know what you are trying to say.. and THANK YOU... I hope for sure that all the horrible experiences that I have had will teach me to be more compassionate and more on the ball..

and not to use abbreviations for things that can be misinterpeted.
