Hey,

I have been thinking about you constantly and waiting to hear how the results of your blood tests came back... Was the infection an old one? How is the baby doing...

I thought you were leaving the computer for a while because your husband was taking the lap top back to work with him but I keep seeing you post and I am WAITING for an update..

I worry about everyone you know...

Update us girlfriend....

hey, aw you are so kind to think of us.
Good news, the doctor said I didn't test for an active infection-My blood just showed antibodies from at some point in my life being exposed to the toxoplasmosis virus. About 40-50% of people catch it in their life without ever knowing it. Since I grew up on a farm, it is likely that I caught it at some point in my childhood. The chance of me catching it recently is low.

The doctor is doing more tests, I think just to cover all her bases. The genetic counselor at St. Vincents, who by the way ROCKS, she explained everything in detail to us, and basically said-you are fine. The doc is just doing this test to reconfirm that. She pretty much said what the obstetrician should have said in the first place to us-instead of keeping us on pins for 2 weeks. But all's well that ends well.

After I didn't hear from the doc for so long, I just started to reason, well-my mom had 8 kids on a farm. Even up to her 9th month, she'd be up at 5, out milking the cows and shoveling pig poop (we grew up kinda different....) I'm sure she was exposed to TONS of germs and parasites during her pregnancies. If she was fine, I will be too. I didn't know that for sure, but I had to try to be reasonable to maintain a positive attitude for the baby. I feel differently now about prenatal tests though, and what is neccesary. Sometimes if there's nothing they can do anyway even if there is a problem, is it worth all the worry? I dont' know. I'm trying to sort it out.

The other good news is-we got a new laptop! Its not ours really, its from my hubby's office, but they dont' need it so we have it now. I'm really happy about that. I would go insane without a comp!

Thanks again for caring-you have no idea how much it means to me. BIG hugs to you!

Christian--Do you happen to have cats? I saw where you can get this from cat feces/litter. I would assume that's why they suggest that pregnant women don't mess with litter boxes.
You can get it from eating rare meat as well.
Of course, like you said....growing up on a farm could also be a good source.
I'm glad the doctor said it's not a big deal.

Christian,

I missed your post about all of this, but after reading Jen's post and then yours, I am relieved to hear your test results. I too had that test done. surprisingly, mine was negative. I thought it would be positive considering I've been shoveling cat poop for about 75% of my life......

if you do have a kitty, NOOOOOOO litter box cleaning for you!!! mark took over for me during the pregnancy and GLADLY relinquished the scooper back to me the first day I came home to our house (about 2.5 weeks after the babies were born). LOL, he couldn't wait to turn the job back over to me (he's not a cat person in the least!!!)

Glad to hear that all is well!!!!!

We have a cat, but its an outdoor barn cat so there's no litter box and I personally never have contact with the cat. Thats what was so puzzling to me. Fortunately for me, once you have toxo in your body, you can't get it again, much like chicken pox. So at this point the cat is no problem anyway.
But I have become a total germaphobe from this. I practically sterilized the whole house. But you never know where parasites are-I'm sure they're in all the foods we eat to a degree.

When I found out that I most likely got this from a cat (I never eat rare meat or seafood, ever) I thought back to me as a kid being on that farm-I mean, I took care of all these stray cats that would be dropped off on the farm, I remember the mangiest, filthiest cats, I'd be holding them, kissing them!!! And my parents would scold me to not touch the mangey ones! Think of all the germs I probably have in my body!
