detoxing the liver

Detoxifying the Liver

Drinking carrot juice daily will help to detoxify the liver as will drinking Essiac Tea daily. Apart from being low cost and safe to use, Aloe Vera is the best natural way to induce phase II of the liver's detox pathway.

Lemon & Extra Virgin Olive oil drink can be taken daily and is an excellent detox for the liver. If drunk all in one go first thing in the morning (an hour before eating) it will flush & detox the Liver & Gallbladder. This drink manages to restore the Ph of your saliva which in turn helps you to absorb the nutrients from the food you eat. To make this you need 2 Organic Lemons, 2 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and a glass and a half of clean spring water. Wash the Lemons, cut out any dark bits, then roughly chop the whole lemons (including rind & seeds) & put in a blender. Add the 2 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive oil & the glass & a half of water - blend this for 60 seconds - strain & serve.

Caution: If you have a severely weakened liver, or liver cancer, start off with 1/4 cup of the above lemon drink, and gradually build up to the full amount over 4 weeks. Consuming the whole amount in one go, can cause a "healing crisis", resulting in a dramatic drop of bilirubin levels (an excellent sign) fever, diarrhea, and generally feeling unwell.

A single LIVER FLUSH over a 24 hour period will help to remove gallstones and will greatly improve your health and well-being. Information about this liver flush can be obtained from Dr Clark's website. Further information about the liver can be obtained from Dr Sandra Cabot's Liver Doctor website.

well, honestly i don't think these will hurt anything, may taste really bad, but won't hurt you and i guess you can try but if i understand it right the problem with most cf livers is the cf part, mucus has it all plugged up, and these things aren't going to disolve the mucus paste we develop everywhere. i'm not real sure it will work on a regular liver, everything there is good for you so i guess drinking it wouldn't hurt you but i wouldn't suggest it for helping your liver

I'm not really sure that it will help, but I'm not a doctor so I can't say a definite.

My thinking is....a CF liver normally is not toxic. It is full of mucus like, Robert mentioned, which causes the scarring and other things. When we found my liver troubles, there was nothing with toxicity. I had cirrhosis and portal hypertension (high blood pressure in the liver). I never did get ascites (sp?) and never had a raised billirubin level which sometimes come from a toxic liver. I had my liver transplant because of the cirrhosis, mucus build up, high blood pressure and all of the scarring that it was causing.

So I don't know.....I just don't think it would help.

I take aloe pills regularly. I didn't know they were supposed to help cleanse the liver but I know they make a difference for me. I also eat (baby) carrots at least 5 days a week. They make a handy snack at work. At home, I typically fry them in a little coconut oil and/or organic butter. Again, I had not heard that they were known for liver detox. But I do find it to be a good food to use as a staple in my diet. I'm fairly picky about what I eat and have eliminated a lot of prolem foods (like soy, peanuts, and bad oils). My health is better for it.

I have not used lemon this way, but I have heard that it is one of the things that helps correct ph balance. Correcting my ph balance has been a cornerstone of my efforts to get well. So I think anything that helps with your ph balance is a good thing for a cf'er. We tend to be way too acid and that is one of the things which makes us so ill. My understanding is that excess acidity promotes infection, promotes diabetes, promotes lung problems (I cough more and have more gunk in my lungs when I am too acid) and causes gut problems. So any improvement in PH balance is likely to help you across the board.

I don't currently keep olive oil in the house because my son wcf doesn't like the stuff. But it is one of the few oils I have found I can tolerate. I was told that it is a medium chain triglyceride. Medium chain triglycerides are beneficial to pwcf. Adding medium chain triglycerides to your diet will help you.

A lot of the drugs pwcf take are hard on the liver. I used to routinely take milk thistle for liver support. After I finally got off advil last November, I was also able to discontinue taking milk thistle. Advil (ibuprofen/motrin) is hard on the liver, as is Aleve, zithromax and undoubtedly other drugs I have taken. If it does help to detox the liver, I believe it would be beneficial to a pwcf. But as others noted, there are other issues with CF and it seems to me those may need to be addressed for this to have the best effect. I have found that there are bottle-necks in the system and if those are not addressed, then other things help only a minimal amount. Sea salt may help with the mucus issues. My mucus membranes work a whole lot better since I began using it.

I would encourage you to assume that you have a weakened liver and need to start at the lower suggested amount. A healing crisis is not only very un-fun (I spent much of yesterday evening wishing I were dead) but if you are in a weakened state, a bad healing crisis can land you in the ER -- where doctors are likely to give you drugs that will gunk up your liver and undo what you are trying to accomplish. So take it slow. You have to be the tortoise if you want to win this race.

If you try it, I would be interested in hearing how it went. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
