Did insurance cover genetic testing for your kids?

We're going to get my daughter tested for CF by Ambry. She has no symptoms of it at age 13. But for peace of mind I need to get the testing done, even if it means paying for it out of pocket. The CF clinic that I go to is going to take care of the testing paperwork etc... I was wondering how your insurance companies handled testing of children. As an adult if you had CF but found out about it AFTER the child was born, did they cover genetic testing on your kids? Thanks, ~Juliet

I really don't know much about this.....this is just my opinion. I would think it would depend on whether she is having any kind of symptoms and whether doctor's have recommended further testing. With your history though, I would think you and your doctor's could make a pretty good case for it. Is your husband a carrier?

THanks Skye, I don't know about my husband. He's never been tested and doesn't have symptoms. Funny thing is his mom (in her 70s) is thinking of getting tested for CF. She's had trouble gaining weight all her life and has had a chronic cough all her life too. ~Juliet

You could ask who ever is running the test to call about coverage though.
