Did you know that processed foods, cow's milk, sugar and white flour cause mucus production in the body?

I know it sounds so silly as to why some of these are recommended thing from the clinic, but truth of the matter is its easy to add butter and sugar to everything and inexpensive.

My big question is if we are spending all this time and money to get mucus out, why are we putting it back in?

I have heard of this, but mostly with the milk causing more mucus production. My clinic has always told me that if it affects me, then don't drink/eat it. I have never had a problem with these things causing more mucus.

Our bodies are all variable. These things don't cause problems for everyone (and for every article I can find supporting the theory that these foods cause mucus production, there is one refuting the claim- further supporting the 'everyone is different' school of thought.)

However, I have to make the point that expense IS a concern for many of us- for precisely the reason that we spend SO MUCH on medications and other things related to cf care. It's not that we just don't care, it's just that no matter how much budget crunching we do, we can't always afford to do everything. Medical supplies are a must- spending a lot of extra money on food, either as a specialized thing for one family member or changing over for everyone- simply isn't always an option.

I don't think a single dietitian at any accredited clinic would recommend processed foods and white flour over whole grains and a diet comprised of less processed stuff, though. Implying otherwise is a bit unfair. The health benefits to our whole body when we eat a diet rich in whole grains and less processed foods & refined sugars is universally recognized.

Hmw, our dietitian at our accredited clinic told us to add butter and McDonald's fries if that tells you anything, so I wasn't "implying" but stating a true fact for my family.I would agree that certain things are universally recognized but sometimes some clinic throw that out the window, You are truly blessed to have a clinic that uses "healthy options"

Just making a point that it does affect some peoples bodies and there are a lot of options out there. It all depends on what article you read and who you talk to.

There are inexpensive ways to add things. I had to teach myself everything and I was able to figure out things that work when many factors that are common things such as milk and scandishakes and carnation shakes are all removed. I had to find a milk my child could drink and not get sick from because everything conventional but soy had whey in it,and the nutritionist was lost. Oh and we were not to give him soy either.. No one had answers and then he lost a few ounces and they threatened a feeding tube because they didn't have any answers, but what did they think they were going to pump in that feeding tube, more stuff he can't have so it became a life or death mission for me to figure this out, so I had to take a natural approach and a non conventional approach and it has shown to work tremendously well, and not just for my son but many others. I guess for my family we didn't have any other option but to spend the money on the food his body needed.

I remember when B was dx and all these issues came about and I searched for help and I could find no help with his specific issues, and even had many people seem to not understand the use of goat's milk in my sons diet. I then felt spit out by the very people I turned to for support, so now it is my mission in life to make sure people out there with a non conventional way of things, whether by choice or by no other options has information. I didn't expect everyone to agree with it and that is ok but I don't always agree with the "normal" way of things and that is ok.. we are all here to support each other and sometimes just question things. The mucus from milk is an up in the air topic and you feel one way and I feel the other way and I have articles of "theories" that suggest my opinion to be true just as you have articles of "theories" that suggest your opinion to be true. You have professionals that agree with you and I have professional that agree with me, it really could go on and on, but truth of the matter is there is no reason to attack each other when we are in the same game, just different positions on the field.
